Massive List of Yuri Media (2000+ Titles)

Since my first list got a lot of positive feedback, I've decided to release an EVEN BIGGER list because you deserve better.
I had to upload some of the lists to google sheets because of Reddit's character limit. I will post the links to them in their respective category.
NOTE: Some (Not all) of the Japanese Titles have not been scanlated yet and can be read on sites such as comic walker.
Now, the list...

ANIME LIST

I had to upload this one to google sheets. You can check the list out here.

Manga List

This was the main list I wanted to post here, but there were just too many titles, so I had to shorten it a little. You can view the whole thing here.

Magazine List

If you're unfamiliar with this, it's basically like a monthly magazine you would get in the mail. Usually, anthologies are printed and published in magazines like the Yuri Hime. You can view the list here.

Eroge/Visual Novel List

I had to upload this, along with the others, to google sheets. Feel free to check it out here.
If you'd like to download "その花びらにくちづけを 白雪の騎士" (eng. A kiss for the petals: Snow White's Knight), I've uploaded My copy to mega for anyone to download it.
Link1 (Game)
Link2 (Manuals)
Make sure you run the game with some sort of locale emulator.

There you have it! That sums it up for now!
If you spot a mistake or a potential error, please let me know!
One list I'd like to add is webtoons. If you have any yuri webtoons that you enjoy, please let me know so I can add them! You can let me know in the comments here or you can shoot me a dm on discord. My discord is ef1500#5899.

Thoughts on and ideas for existing characters

This is just a hodgepodge of stuff that I've been thinking about every once and a while for the past few months.
Wonder Woman - Amazons from other works of fiction and mythology are usually depicted and or described as being very tall and muscular. While she needn't be 7' and as wide as a body builder, I think it would be neat if a version of Diana was drawn at around 6'3" or so, with a well defined muscle structure. Also, while it doesn't tend to be so for most versions of her, I don't see why Diana couldn't be a lesbian, or at least bisexual. What with having grown up on an island made up entirely of woman.

Batman - In real life, if someone tried to be a vigilante just like Batman, they would be shot and killed soon after they started. Batman, and many other superheroes, are not killed early in their career for one reason. They don't just stand still on a rooftop looking at something. Being that they would be aware that there is a target on them every time they put on the mask, they would constantly be moving from one position to another. While someone like Joker could be a relatively skilled street fighter, most characters like Batman would never let themselves be tagged. Only another honed warrior would be able to get the jump on them. I wish a version of Batman would be depicted as being able to go from knocking a guy out with a punch, cause severe and immediate pain in another guy with multiple strikes to several nerve bundles, and temporarily paralyzing a guy form eh waste down. It is a running joke that Batman doesn't kill people, but he does leave them to pay off their medical bills. I would want this version of Batman to know when to break someone, and when not to break someone (Under The Red Hood). Batman is a broken man, who would not be able to function in society so he would keep to himself for most of his life. Raising the Robins would indeed be a loving father under the guise of a stern commander. He might tell a joke in the presence of one of the Robins, or a member of the league, but those he faces often would only be worked to his goals. He strikes fear into street thugs who simply got handed that short end of the stick, but he scars those a the top of the corruption.

Superman - If I am not mistaken, which I very much could be, Man of Steel was the first to introduce the idea that Krypton had a stronger gravitational force, resulting in the kryptonians having a denser muscular system. I think it would be interesting if Kal and other kryptonians who found themselves on a planet with a weaker gravitational field, such as Earth, would not require solar energy to be stronger than the average human. They would simply be stronger, with Kal actually being weaker than even the weakest of kryptonians due to his being raised on Earth, while others such as Kara were used to Krypton's much stronger gravitational pull. Speaking of Kara and other kryptonians, I have an interesting, or at least in my mind it is interesting, reason for why Clark ended up where he is. You see, Jor-El would've been aware of Krypton's coming demise a few decades or so before it were to actually happen. He tried to warn Krypton's authorities, but non of them would listen, much like what was depicted in Man of Steel.
He had always wanted to have a child, a naturally born child, but Lara simply never felt the time was right (this would all take place in their 30s; 40s to us, as Krypton's orbit was much wider and took much more time to complete). But now that they new their time was short, they were ready, or at least at face value. You see, Jor-El had discovered a side affect from Krypton's deteriorating state. The entirety of Krypton's population was suffering from radiation poisoning, and for some unknown reasoning, no one but Jor-El had been able to detect it (Jor-El may be the only one because he was designed to be the smartest man on Krypton). Everyone would either die a few years before Krypton's end, or die with Krypton. He found out that his brother, Zor-El, and his sister in law, Alura, were also going to try and have a natural birth (as children, the brothers had made a pact that they would be the first in over 5 centuries to have children naturally).
Jor-El put a stop to it by revealing Krypton's fate to his brother, at least for now he would. Knowing that he would be unable to save his home world, he now knew what he would put his remaining years into. Figuring out how to save his bloodline and that of his people. He searched the nearest galaxies for an exoplanet, and found hundreds, but due to how light worked, he was viewing them as they were many years ago. He did however discover what appeared to be a forming exoplanet. In order for him to make certain of its future state, he determined that he would need to send his personal probe to analyze any beginnings of life(due to his status as one of Krypton's elite, he was afforded an untraceable probe to do so as he saw fit), but he would first have to come up with a way to deal with the time disparity. He reasoned that he would use Krypton's one and only Phantom Zone portal, and navigate the probe towards the closest tear to the planet (the still forming exoplanet). But in order for data to flow in a useful manner, he would need to modify his probe to be as data efficient as possible, but at the cost of its structural stability (meaning it would not be able to survive even two trips through the hazardous Phantom Zone).
After only a few days of scanning, the probe did indeed discover microscopic organisms living in and around the planet's surface. Now that he was certain this was the planet, Jor-El went on to his next task, figuring out how to cure his future child, and the future child of his brother. After a few short years, Jor-El discovered how to save both the eggs of Lara and Alura, but it wouldn't be pleasant. For the next few years, both of them would need to undergo a process that would nullify the radiation in the eggs. This would rapidly use up any food they consumed, including any found in those foods, stripping their bodies of the necessary fats needed to fight against both the radiation and infections. Every moment of every hour, of every day, of every month, of every year, would require them to wear a portable IV like device, providing them with a serum consisting of pure nutrients and fats. Any slip ups in refilling these devices resulted in both Lara and Alura being put into a coma like state.
Alura would give birth to a girl named Kara, in an air tight, lead lined chamber. Due to her being in a weaker state, Lara would not be ready to give birth for another 15 years. By the time Lara was healthy enough to give birth, the rest of Krypton's elite had already found out about the planet's imminent demise. This would make it all the more difficult for Jor-El to plan. General Zod, an old friend of Jor-El, began to look into his activities over the past decade or so. The construction of the ship Jor-El planned to carry his child and his niece would slow down in order to keep its existence a secret. Days after it was finished, Lara would give birth to a boy named Kal-El. It would be another month before Jor-El put his plan into action. He made his way through the main genome compound to retrieve the codex (Man of Steel, minus the explosions and weird pool). By the time Kara had been situated in her pod, General Zod had arrived at their home. Moments before they were able to make themselves inside, Kal had been situated in his pod, and the launch was almost completed. All four of them were arrested and tried for treason. The ship was nearing the portal (gateways used to travel to travel to colony worlds) when it was struck by a military cruiser. A stray shot managed to strike the portal, destabilizing it, nearly closing it before the ship was through. As the ship traveled through space time, it managed to lock onto the tear Jor-El's probe had gone through, but before it could go through, the ship began to warp. By the time it was through, Kara and a section of the ship was gone. She was to raise Kal, and teach him of Krypton, but she was gone. The ship was intended by Jor-El to land safely, but it instead crashed, in a large cornfield.
A couple happened to be going for a ride in their truck when they say the ship crash to the ground. When they got to the crash site, they discovered a small pod containing a baby. Joseph Kent used a crowbar he grabbed from his truck to pry open the glass window of the pod. By the time he had found Martha, she was holding a device that was displaying a message in perfect English. Jor-El had made sure that if anything were to happen to either Kara or Kal, that the indigenous life on the planet now called Earth could raise either of them. It told them of what had happened to them, and of what they must do with either his niece or his son. Joseph found an open crate containing red pills that were apparently supposed to render the solar energy absorbed by either child inert, allowing whoever were to raise to have an easier time doing so, and to ensure they were not killed in the attempt. Strangely enough, no one would come to discover the crash site, which was much to the benefit of the Kents, as it would take them over a month to secretly relocate the remains of the ship to their farm.
While Kal-El, now Clark Joseph Kent, would grow up believing he was simply gifted, and that the red pills were simply because he had a rare illness, he was by far the strongest person known to humanity, or at least, if he were to reveal himself. He would rarely get any cuts or bruises, and never sick, but he did get them. The Kents would instill in him the understanding that all life has a purpose, and that those who cannot protect themselves should be protected. Recap - Jor-El finds out krypton is dying, plans for years to send his son and niece to a distant planet, but the plan goes wrong at the last minute.
So while kryptonians are not unstoppable killing machines, they are by far stronger than humans. A baby who grew up on Krypton would be able to pick up a semi truck, while an adult would be able to pick up a small building. Clark, having grown up on Earth, and not having adapted to Krypton's gravitational field, is by far the weakest healthy Kryptonian in history. He would be, if it weren't for the pills which had compounded the solar energy he would absorb for the next two decades of his life. Meaning, once he stopped taking the red pill (at about 20 years old), Clark had become the strongest kryptonian when exposed to yellow sun light.

I'm not sure where I was going with Batman, but I just wanted to vent a tad due to the annoyance with seeing him constantly be jumped by randoms. I'd just prefer it if he didn't get tagged as often as he does. Main villains should prove a challenge, as their plans aren't going off 24/7, resulting in something to deal with Batman, but most thugs should never be able to even react to Batman. Wonder Woman was just a few thoughts I've had recently. Superman is very often called bland, which is annoying since he has so much lore that people tend to by oblivious to. Like how he isn't just an unstable god, but is in fact a guy who just wants to live a quiet life and just so happens to be able to put a stop to those who seek to do harm to innocents.

I don't know, I don't think I really got across most of my thoughts, or if I even put down what I really mean, but I put it down, so I know I don't need to think about it as often from now on.

REVIEWING EVERY FUT FREEZE PLAYER - D1/G1 PLAYER

Introduction

I usually finish WL at Gold 1 with a couple games left over, or if I'm busy I usually manage 14-0 to clinch Gold 3, I'm currently playing at around 2000 SR in Rivals and if SBMM is in friendlies, then that should also be taken into account.
As something different, I told myself I'd like to have at least 1 FUT Freeze player in every one of my Icon Swaps team, while also playing as much draft as possible and also testing some in Rivals/Champs too. I am fortunate enough that I could afford every player from the Promo and I completed all the loans for Icon Swaps use.
I have provided a brief review of each player, however if you have any more questions, feel free to comment!
Hope this is helpful

Sadio Mane

At 2.34M he's obviously the spearhead of this promo and rightly so, he's amazingly fast and has really good shooting on both feet. Dribbling is sensational and the change in work rates does help him at the ST position especially. However, upon saying all this the minor upgrades are not worth an extra 2million over his IF. But if you have the coins and really want to use this card, he is sensational.
Overall rating - 10/10

Casemiro

Is he better than your Varane and Gomez? No. But, he's extremely physical and strong in the tackle, especially if you can jockey well and time your tackle both standing and sliding. His physicals are extremely good and the High/Low work rates paired with the very good passing stats, means he is the second best CB in the LaLiga behind the cyborg himself (Varane). If you have used Desailly, he is a very similar player, personally I preferred Casemiro though.

Verratti

Now this one surprised me, his dribbling feels a lot better than his already high stats, the ball just sticks to his feet, very similar to Messi. Being 5'5" and having a unique body type, it only helps his low centre of gravity and LS dribbling with this guy is genuinely crazy. He doesn't have crazy shot power, but his positioning and finishing is good. Passing wise, he is also really nice and I didn't find any issues with it. Now, physicals, basically non-existent. While the height helped with dribbling, it doesn't help with his already low physicals, he just gets bodied off the ball whenever a defender is near him, and that Varane you come up against every game will destroy him 9 times out of 10. If you want a fun card, it's a good pickup with good links too, and that CAM position is great for him

Bernardo Silva

When I seen the Freeze team, this is the one I was most excited for because I used his regular gold for a while at the beginning of the game, switching him to CAM. The obvious is that his dribbling is really good and the upgraded 4 star weak foot really helps with his already good shooting. Passing wise, one of the best I've used. His physicals are so bad and up there with the worst I've ever used, he gets bullied by all midfielders and defenders. His change in work rates may favour some, but I personally preferred the High/High of his regular. The pace even with a hunter, did not feel anywhere near as fast as it should have. It's safe to say I was disappointed with this one. If you need a Portuguese PL player, just get Bruno.

Lautaro Martinez

Wow. Still in my team because of how good he is. Apart from CR7, he is hands down the best Serie A ST, and he feels really similar to CR7. A mix of pace, good and responsive dribbling and top tier physicals make this guy a perfect ST imo. His change of strong foot was a bit strange at first, but when you get used to it, he has a rocket for a foot, and his weak foot feels good too, as expected no problems with his shooting. His passing is average at best, but his dribbling is so good for a guy of this size and physcals. The work rates compliment this card so well. I cannot recommend him enough, even at that 430k price tag, I think its fair, especially compared with CR7.

Marquinhos

Ligue 1 and even Brazil lacks good CDM's, Marquinhos is the answer to that. Fast, good passer and feels really responsive for his size and position. As expected defensively and physically, he's excellent and has the perfect work rates for a stay back CDM. If you can craft or complete this card for under 150k, I'd definitely recommend picking him up. Plus the hyperlink to Neymar and strong link to Mbappe, means he will be easy to fit into a team for a long time coming.

Value For Coins - 8/10

Hazard

This card was strange, at first I couldn't get on with him as a ST or even CAM, but after getting used to him and pushing him out wide, he really shone. His lean body type and extremely high agility and balance, means he feels extremely responsive on the ball and makes him feel faster than his pace shows. Has a 4 star weak foot, so shooting was good, nothing special but good, the same can be said about his passing. His physicals means he is weak but for whatever reason even though he only has 85 stamina, he lasted a full 90 mins on the wings and wasn't impacted a lot. A very fun BuLi option and I'd even go as far to say he feels similar to his brother, Eden's base card, which is also a really good winger.
Overall Rating - 8/10
Value For Coins - 8/10

Gaya

I actually had a bit of fun with this card, was fast enough with good shooting and felt nice enough on the ball. Passing was a bit lacklustre and his physicals also were. His weak foot hindered him a lot and against good opposition, he is extremely easy to predict and defend against. He's nothing special and theres a lot of players like this card but for the price, I can't complain and if you're looking for a fun/different option then why not pick him up.
Overall Rating - 6/10
Value for Coins - 7/10

Torreira

The first thing you're wondering is, if he's better than Mendy, and the answer is No. But, this card is very good in his own right, feels excellent and responsive on the ball as expected from a Torreira card, and this helps and makes him feel a lot faster. His stamina and aggression is so high, that he charges up and down his side of the pitch with ease. He is a very good option especially if you keep your defenders on stay back since he has M/H work rates, but the only reason I rate Mendy over him, is because I like to attack with my full backs and Mendy has the skills/weak foot, and also feels a lot stronger.
Overall rating - 8/10
Value For Coins - 7/10

Ansaldi

Easily the best Serie A RB and also as a midfielder option he is amazing, I'd also go as far to say as an Argentine he's the best option over any version of Zanetti. Very fast and physicals feel a lot better than the stats suggest due to his size. Defending is amazing as expected. On the ball though, he feels a lot more responsive and better than his stats suggest and has 4 star skills too, which is handy, Passing wise he once again feels better than his stats suggest, and has the 5 star weak foot, once again very useful. These traits make him an extremely viable CDM/CM option but as of right now my favourite and best RB in the game, I really feel for the people that missed out on him. Him and Martinez in a 451 will be in my team for a very long time, I anticipate.
Overall Rating 10/10
Value For Coins - 9/10

Wan-Bissaka

I'm not even going to waste my time writing a review, like you shouldn't waste anything on this card. His RB is a better option and feels better even on 7 chem. As an English CB, Gomez is better.
Overall Rating - 5/10
Value For Coins - 1/10

Nani

This one surprised me. Imagine Neymar and Promes had a child, this is him. Low sprint speed but high acceleration and agility, makes him feel fast enough, especially down the wings (where I'd recommend using him). One of those cards where both the dribbling and shooting, feels a lot better than the stats suggest. And obviously he does have the 5 sta5 star combo, which is as good as you can get. Lean body type, Low stamina and strength, means he gets bullied but high aggression and his height helps him a bit. For under 40k a really fun card if you can fit him, or even as a super sub.
Overall Rating - 8/10
Value For Coins - 8/10

Bailey

Was a good and fun card, don't get me wrong, but he's so generic as in there's a million different cards like this and I'm sure in your club you have someone or better. If you are a Bailey fan or Leverkusen Fan, then maybe complete him, otherwise he's nothing special.
Overall rating - 6/10
Value For Coins - 6/10

Sane

A literal tank at CDM, as in he has the physicals and stature of one being 6'5" and 92 strength. But, his dribbling means he's a bit clunky, although saying that, he has 93 reactions and 88 composure, paired with very good defensive stats. His passing and stamina isn't great, but as a solely staying back CDM, he's not a bad shout for his price. However, hard to link and BuLi has better options in Kimmich and Zakaria if needed.
Overall Rating - 7/10
Value For Coins - 7/10

Rodriguez

You can almost copy and paste the Sane review for Rodriguez, except he's a lot smaller, so feels a bit more mobile. Saying that, physicals are really nice, as are his passing stats, and for you Serie A boys, is actually a really good CDM option. Not a bad pickup for near discard price, but not exactly a game changer.
Overall Rating - 7/10
Value For Coins - 9/10

Golovin

Is actually a really nice card, shame he plays in a league where there is a billion RB options, and he doesn't stand out against any of these, however he does hold his own. H/H work rates and nice physcials, paired with good dribbling means he feels nice up and down that right side. Shooting is irrelevant and passing feels worse than suggested, he does have 4 star skills and weak foot though, but as an attacking option I preferred RTTF Atal. Although he's not far off discard price, and is a good defensive option, hard to link though.
Overall Rating - 7/10
Value For Coins - 8/10

Final Notes

I understand I have given every card similar ratings, however I individually rated each card rather than comparing them with each other, and to be quite honest, this has been a decent promo from EA in terms of the cards being good.

But Everyone Calls their Planet Dirt!

"We'll want to minimize the amount of our tech they can get their hands on before full capitulation," Intelligence Officer Rouel noted. "To go from undetectable from a distance to an orbital communications relay network in only five hundred years suggests a remarkably high innovation score."

Admiral Crassock flicked an ear tuft and nodded. "The less we give them to reverse engineer, the less we'll bleed. Are there any other warning flags?"

"No, sir," Rouel answered. "They launch their satellites with chemical rockets. Even first generation counter-grav is more cost effective, so we can reasonably assume they don't have it. Since you can't do FTL R&D on a planet's surface without destroying it, no counter-grav means no FTL, which means no reinforcements. A separatist colony would have retained enough tech for an outward facing system defense network; a penal colony would have an inward facing one. Since this system has neither, this must be this species's homeworld."

"Has there been any change in the habitability report since the original survey?" the admiral asked. CRX-4 sat right in the sweet spot of the habitability assessment, with most of its landmass in the subtropical zones, but enough temperate and arctic real estate to ensure that over 90% of galactic species could live there with only adornment grade protective clothing. Only a handful of the most extreme outlier species would need more than class three environmental gear to survive somewhere on the planet. The only reason no one had snapped it up when it was first discovered was that its location was simply too remote to be practical. But borders had expanded in the intervening centuries, and now the Wingover Heromancy was close enough to claim the planet and defend that claim against any contenders.

"Surprisingly little," the intelligence officer answered. "They must have had their industrial revolution at an atypically low population benchmark, and learned how to clean up after themselves fairly quickly. Another indication that they have an abnormally high innovation score."

"What about their physiology?" Admiral Crassock asked. "It won't constrain their combat effectiveness as much as it would for a less innovative species, but it must still influence their tactics."

Intelligence Officer Rouel nodded. "Here, we have visuals on them." He flicked a command to the display, but then began reading off the data anyway. "Mammalian bipeds, hair sparse except on the top of the head and a few other locations that vary by individual. Moderate sexual dimorphism--subtle but enough to render co-ed sports competitions impractical for any but strictly recreational purposes. Very conflicting reports on strength and stamina, suggesting that they have a use-it-or-lose-it physiology. Atypically high resting metabolic rates, even for endotherms."

"Meaning that a middle of the sleep cycle surprise attack will have to be perfectly executed in order to retain the advantages of a surprise attack?" the admiral interjected.

"Precisely," Rouel answered. "Viviparous with a gestational period of nearly a year and roughly two decades to maturity. Birthrate appears to inversely correlate with wealth, which suggests a lack of innate control over their reproduction. It's difficult to determine their typical lifespan--hereditary and environmental factors apparently can alter it by as much as 50%; the current primary suppression of their life expectancy appears to come from a tendency toward extreme recklessness in their adolescent males."

"That will make ground combat...interesting..." Admiral Crossack said. "I think i'll tell the training officers to put their most creative minds on designing the practice scenarios for the ground units."

"With a combination of innovative and reckless, i'd suggest putting the truly diabolical minds on the air unit training scenarios," Captain Hussend said, his reptilian muzzle parting in a grin of malicious glee.

"Looking for an excuse to pull out that black box scenario?" Admiral Crossack asked the captain of his fleet's contingent of planetary troops. Returning his attention to the intelligence officer he asked, "Do we have to worry about attempted MAD?"

"FTL research is noisy enough that we'd detect it long before they managed to weaponize it." Rouel answered. "As much easier as that is than using it for travel, it's still far from easy. They do have fission reactors providing some of their power. There's no evidence that they ever tried to weaponize that technology, however; we'd see fallout scars if they'd done any testing. I'd still recommend seizing those nuclear power plants and any fuel processing facilities as quickly as possible."

Admiral Crossack nodded. "Unless you find something else before we arrive within targeting range of the planet, i think we'll remain in stealth mode until we're in position to take out all of their satellites simultaneously. Their ground based sensors should be sufficient for them to realize we have orbital superiority. If that isn't enough to make them surrender, it will be Captain Hussend's turn to call the shots. Do we know what they call themselves? If we're going to demand that they surrender sovereignty of their home planet, we can at least do them the courtesy of using their name for it."

"They call themselves 'humans'," Intelligence Officer Rouel answered. "The planet they call Ferrari. Oddly, it's the same in all twelve of their languages; perhaps it was inherited from some archaic language that is no longer used."

---------------------------------------

The initial attack went off perfectly. All of the satellites around Ferrari disintegrated within a few seconds of one another, with no wasted shots from the WHN ships. Almost as soon as they realized that all of their satellite communications were down, the humans began evacuating their civilians toward a series of massive underground bunkers.

"I can't tell if that's an overpowered communications laser, or a weapons test modulated to carry data to give them plausible deniability if it fails," the Communications Officer reported when the humans finally replied to the Wingover Heromancy's surrender demands.

"Retaliation will make them assume their weapons are strong enough to damage our ships," Captain Hussend predicted.

Intelligence Officer Rouel concurred. "My recommendation would be to politely ask them to dial back the power on that laser as it's clearly intended for communication over much longer distances. Imply that it's merely signal degradation due to overexposure, not anything that threatens to actually damage our receiver."

Admiral Crossack considered the suggestion for a few moments and then told the communications officer, "Do it."

After some negotiation with the humans over optimal signal strength, the transmission settled on the image of a human in what appeared to be their civilian formal wear. "President Chen, of the Faction Arbitration Council," the human identified himself. "Since you're asking for our surrender rather than simply glassing the planet, you must want it intact, which means you're going to have to come down here and take it. It would be easier to negotiate a land for tech swap--except that none of us has the authority to order everyone else to stand down. You'd have to negotiate with each faction separately if you want the whole planet. And since you opened with an attack, even if it was just on infrastructure and not personnel, rather than a diplomatic contact, half of them are going to insist that you're nothing but thieves and bullies, no matter how big an empire you might happen to have behind you.

"The short version," President Chen continued. "If you want this planet, you're going to have to come down here and take it."

"If we refrain from firing on your evacuating civilians, will you refrain from salting the Ferrari?" Admiral Crossack asked.

"Salting the--?" the human President's forehead wrinkled as he tried to puzzle out the phrase. "You mean, 'salting the earth'?"

"Isn't that what i said?" Admiral Crossack asked. "I understand that the connotations of synonymous words can vary, but the denotation should be similar enough for understanding. And every terrestrial species calls their planet some cognate of Fertile Soil or Solid Ground. It requires relatively advanced astronomical knowledge to realize that the planet beneath one's feet has anything in common with the wandering stars in the night sky, after all."

The human's eyes widened, and then his face went curiously blank. He just figured something out, and he's weighing the tactical considerations against the strategic ones, Rouel guessed silently.

"We won't start an atrocity contest as long as you don't," President Chen said. "Not all of our cultures agree on what does and what does not constitute war crimes, but as long as you refrain from targeting civilians and don't use biological or chemical weapons, they should all remain within the parameters of what most warriors consider an acceptable level of occupational hazard."

"What's the most common opinion on eating your kills?" Captain Hussend asked, displaying his mouthful of large reptilian teeth.

"In extremis only," President Chen answered. "There are a few superstitions that hold that eating hearts or certain other organs can be a way to appropriate your enemy's virtues, but far more of us regard it as a way of declaring your enemy to be an animal rather than a person. Cannibalism as a last ditch alternative to death by starvation will generally be overlooked, but ritual practice is not tolerated."

Captain Hussend nodded. "That is a common consensus among most polities and species as well. I suppose that any trophy taking would best be justifiable as preserving DNA samples to determine who is dead and who is missing once the war ends?"

"Oh, the nerds are going to love you," President Chen muttered. "Is there anything else we need to discuss, or is it time for you to either reconsider your invasion or else 'bring it on'?"

"My troops are already dropping," Captain Hussend answered with another toothy grin.

---------------------------------

"Woah, hey, there's no need to get nasty," Pedro said as his eyes locked onto the tray of surgical implements. "I'm a civilian. I've got no reason not to spill the beans."

"Civilian," the mantis looking interrogator scoffed. "You killed at least forty of our soldiers, and crippled over a dozen more."

"I'm just a guy trying to defend his home. If your people had just obeyed the 'no trespassing' signs, nobody would have died," Pedro responded.

"In any case, it's your medical condition that's responsible for any nastiness," the interrogator informed the human captive. "The squad that dug you out from under that landslide thought they were recovering a corpse for autopsy. Growing replacement organs for your ruptured ones was straightforward enough, but your species is violently allergic to all of our existing bone glue formulations, so your broken bones are going to have to heal the slow way. I'm told that broken ribs are even more painful than a fractured thoracic plate."

"Convenient," Pedro said. "You get to dose me with enough painkillers to keep me from guarding my tongue and still claim you're just trying to help me."

"Quite convenient," the interrogator agreed. "Also a useful argument against those who claim that compassion is nothing but a waste of resources. May i have your full name for the next exchange of survival records?"

"Pedro Fook. I'm seriously tempted to give you the correct spelling instead of the one English speakers will pronounce correctly, but i'm too tired for that game."

The interrogator paused to listen to what the linguist was telling him through his earpiece and then clacked in amusement. "Very droll. I can accept that a civilian would have sufficient motive for attacking our troops, but i find your effectiveness implausible."

Pedro answered, "Why? Hunting the free-range livestock gets us kill training. Paintball games give us tactical training against opponents as smart and creative as we are. Wilderness hiking and camping gets us survival training. And VR lets us familiarize ourselves with the stuff that would be too dangerous to do for real."

"But how are you coordinating your attacks?" the interrogator asked.

"We aren't," Pedro answered. "We're spread out enough that we aren't likely to get in each other's ways; and we all grew up reading the same books, watching the same movies, and playing the same games, so we all have fairly similar ideas as to what tactics are likely to work in what situations. We don't need to win, we just have to keep harassing your people enough to prove we haven't abandoned our claim until the military gets here. If you had a prior claim, you should have planted a flag or left a beacon in orbit or something, so we'd have known we needed to negotiate instead of just moving in."

"Habitable planets are far to precious to be left in the hands of those who can't defend them," the interrogator replied. "There are a few interstellar species so xenophobic that they will glass a planet that someone else beat them to. If you can't keep us from taking it when we want to preserve it, you'd have no hope of keeping them from destroying it."

"You still could have tried negotiating first and attacking second," Pedro replied angrily. "Counter-gravity tech would be well worth sharing a planet over. Possibly even giving one up if we could have come to an arrangement regarding the people who have put down roots too deep to be willing to move to a different one. Too late for that now, though."

"You have no FTL," the interrogator said. "How would you leave, and how could you have come here from somewhere else."

"Why do you think we--ohhhhhh..." Pedro suddenly realized, "You never did solve the energy discharge from getting it almost right problem. You had counter-grav, you could just do your research and development in deep space where failures wouldn't destroy your planet. We had to focus on miniaturization instead, so the energy release was small enough to contain, until we could consistently get it right. Then we scaled back up until we had something suitable for a mass transit system. By the way, the emergency evacuation portals can be weaponized, so i'd advise against backing us into any corners. And our home planet isn't on this network, so even if you manage to capture a control unit intact, you can't get all of us!"

"Do you know where it is, in spatial terms?" the interrogator asked.

Pedro started to shrug and them stopped when his ribs objected. "Galaxy cluster on the other side of the Great Attractor from here, if i remember correctly. We've got at least a hundred planets scattered across a dozen different galaxies, as best the astronomers can tell. There's one that's suspected of not even being in the same universe."

"What does Ferrari translate as," the interrogator asked.

"Did anyone notice that paved track with the freestanding garage near my house?" Pedro responded. "That car in there, that's a Ferrari."

The translator listened to something on his earpiece and then said, "Four-wheeled ground vehicle, internal combustion engine--used for recreational racing?" Getting a nod from Pedro he went on, "The car is named after the planet?"

"No," Pedro answered. "The planet was named after the car; the car is named after the guy who founded the company that originally manufactured it. No clue what the etymology on his family name is."

"I see," the interrogator said. His insect-like anatomy and stridulatory vocal apparatus didn't prevent him from being noticeably disturbed by what he'd learned.

-------------------------------------

"But everyone calls their planet 'Dirt'," Admiral Crossack objected once he finished watching the recording of the interview.

"But they're not from here," Captain Hussend said. "It would have been obvious, except their method of getting here flies in the face of everything we know about FTL tech. We've got enough seismic surveys now to know those bunkers are nowhere near big enough to hold everyone who went into them. Not even with true stasis tech or physiology that would allow for adult cryofreeze. Can't swear on the former, but we know they don't have the latter."

"A pity this Pedro never studied enough physics to explain how their portals work. He can tell us what they do, but not why," Intelligence Officer Rouel said. "They probably sent anyone who did have that knowledge home in the first wave of evacuations. A pity we didn't know to stop them."

Captain Hussend disagreed. "Just as well we didn't. If that portal tech really does have the same energy discharge problem as conventional FTL, they have at least planetary, and possibly system scale, MAD. Firing on evacuees would have been a disaster."

"And Pedro thinks they've sent enough shuttle parts through that portal for them to reverse engineer the counter-gravity tech," Admiral Crossack said glumly. "Doesn't know enough to guess how long that will take, or which direction they'll try to hit us from once they have it. I suppose i can't really blame him for not bothering to study astrography with the way their portal network ignores physical distance, but it's blasted inconvenient for us."

"And President Chen still insists that negotiation is impossible until their military arrives in force--no one currently on planet has the authority or the firepower to force all factions to abide by any agreement," Rouel noted, equally glum. "We need to crack one of those bunkers open, see what's in there."

"Already in planning," Captain Hussend said. "And i just ordered it moved to the top of the priority list."

That was when the bunkers in question exploded. A number of blunt conical projectiles erupted from each site, propelled by an unholy mixture of chemical rockets and conter-grav.

"Those missiles have shields," one of the point defense sensor techs reported.

Captain Hussend's pupils went to full dilation and he lunged for the fleet wide communication toggle. "All personnel, stand by to repel boarders. Projectile loadout, not concussion."

Admiral Crossack stared at the captain in consternation. "That firefight is going to be a nightmare for damage control."

"If they can survive that kind of acceleration," Hussend waved a hand at the display that was tracking the missiles' progress, "and be able to fight afterwards, then while concussion injuries may still be a nightmare for the survivors' nearest and dearest to deal with, they won't do us any good."

"Notify me as soon as all of these presumed boarding missiles have either docked or been destroyed," Admiral Crossack told the sensor officer sorrowfully. Then he turned to the main console and began reciting a lengthy series of authorization codes, concluding with, "Assimilator boarding protocol to standby."

"You think they're that dangerous, sir?" one of the other ship commanders asked on a private channel.

"MAD only works if it truly is mutual," Admiral Crossack explained. "We don't know how many planets these humans have or where they are; we cannot allow them to have that information about ours. A species that scores as high as this one for both aggression and innovation is not something we want to have to fight a defensive war against."

Even with the deranged acceleration produced by the hybrid drive systems, it was several long minutes before the boarding missiles began impacting against the orbiting ships. The smaller, faster ships had been sent racing away from Ferrari. Half of them immediately headed to various WHN stations to relay the information acquired so far; half of them loitered on the fringes of the system to see how events played out. The larger ships, however, needed too much time to bring their main engines up to full thrust to escape the attack via distance.

The human soldiers from the last of the boarding missiles to arrive were greeted by an automated sounding, "Assimilation boarding protocol activated. Detection of any breaching charge will activate the self-destruct on all WHN ships within one astronomical unit."

"What did we do that spooked them that bad?" a human from a different boarding party wondered.

"If that translated correctly," the squads senior member answered, "they're using a protocol intended for somebody else. Still, we must have spooked them at least a little to go with one that all-or-nothing."

"I'm getting painted with a sensor laser," a third man reported. "Can they eavesdrop on us without cracking the radio encryption?"

Admiral Crossack figured it was time to offer his proposal. "If you refrain from penetrating any further into our ships, we will withdraw to the fringes of this system until we can negotiate terms for retrieving our planet-side personnel as well as your own return. We will also order our ground troops to return to and remain in the currently existing fortified positions for so long as there are no attacks on those positions. Is this cease fire acceptable?"

"You will refrain from attacking the positions we currently hold?" one of the human boarders asked.

"We will," Admiral Crossack answered.

"Terms accepted."

-----------------------------------

Negotiations went as well as could be expected when the humans were reluctant to allow enough Heromancy shuttles near the planet to lift all of their personnel at once and the WHN officers were reluctant to leave a contingent of the size they could lift at one time on the planet alone. The boarding parties, in contrast, had been returned as soon as the humans could satisfy themselves that the shuttle was not booby trapped--neither they nor the WHN was happy about the active self-destruct contingency.

Eventually a compromise was reached in which the last of the Heromancy bases on Ferrari was to be converted into an embassy. It wouldn't actually attain that status under Heromancy law until the Council of Winglords formally recognized at least one of the human governments, and required a Winglord's presence to attain at least consulate status--but nothing prevented the humans from granting it formal diplomatic recognition in the meanwhile.

President Chen and Admiral Crossack sat facing each other in one of the lounges of the future embassy. "Exactly how much authority do you have to negotiate?" President Chen asked.

"Officially, none," Crossack answered. "Treaties must be ratified by the council and negotiated by a Winglord. Unofficially, i should be able to give you reliable guidance as to what terms will be acceptable and what will not. How much of a courtship dance will be required to get those terms accepted, i can't guess until i know which Winglord will be conducting the official negotiations."

"Seems strange to give you the authority to start a war, but not to finish it," Chen observed.

"Ordinarily," Crossack explained, "a Winglord would have been dispatched as soon as we realized the situation was anomalous. However, they happen to be in the middle of the once a decade Grand Conclave, the one time when Winglords whose disputes cannot be reconciled by legal means are permitted to seek normally illegal forms of redress. Any Winglord not participating still wants to be there to keep an eye on those who are."

"Normally illegal...such as dueling?" Chen guessed.

"Precisely. I was able to attend the last Conclave, and the preparation rituals, intended to preclude cheating, are so humiliating that it can be safely assumed that the participants were not going to be satisfied by anything less than blood." Crossack added, "Technically it's not limited to Winglords, but the requirements for ordinary citizens to challenge anyone are much more stringent. The conventional wisdom is that the less one has to lose, the less likely one is to be deterred by death and dishonor."

"Hmm, i suppose i can see the logic in that." A communication device pinged, and President Chen looked at the display. "What is a Voice, among your people?"

Admiral Crossack's ear tufts straightened. Finally, for good or for ill, he would know what was to be. "Both a courier and a seal of authentication. They make no decisions, but they speak with the authority of the full Council of Winglords. They are generally superlative specimens of species that have powers of persuasion or coercion, which is another reason they are so rigorously trained to be bearers of law only and never lawgivers."

"I see," Chen said slowly. "If she's coming with an arrest warrant, like you were speculating about a few days ago, we're willing to offer you asylum."

"I find exile more unpalatable than death and dishonor combined, but i am honored by your willingness to have me," Admiral Crossack said. "I am a bit puzzled by it, however. I was the one who ordered the attack on your world, after all."

President Chen shrugged. "You only fought with those who wanted to fight, and the conter-grav tech we captured is more than adequate compensation for the infrastructure damage. And the special ops teams that boarded your ships were flattered by the fact that you felt you had to pull out your worst case scenario contingency to stop them. The penultimate contingency apparently wasn't good enough. Er, i hope that was your worst case contingency."

"Worst case for contingency triggers," Crossack agreed. "There's self-destruct every ship in the system now, and trigger a system sterilizing solar flare, but those are direct triggers, and the latter is for scenarios that so far remain purely hypothetical. And the problem was that your people only needed to capture one ship, while i had to keep every single one out of their hands."

"Your people haven't figured out that the counter to a gray goo scenario is to build nannites that eat nannites?" Chen asked rhetorically. "What are the Assimilators, anyway?"

"The reason we don't do implanted technology unless there's no viable alternative medically and keep augmented reality to the absolute minimum needed for non-lethal training," Crossack said. "As best anyone has been able to tell, the Assimilators started as a faction in a VR role playing game. Somewhere along the line the species that originally created the game switched from external device full immersion VR to cyborg tech augmented reality and the players started LARPing. Sometime after that, they stopped their practice of only cyborg modding volunteers who wanted to join their club and started modding anyone they could catch."

Crossack grimaced and continued, "As long as they needed a full surgical suite to perform the modifications, they were strictly a law enforcement problem. Unfortunately, before the last of them could be hunted down, they got their hands on some kind of replicant nano-tech that lets them infiltrate a neural link into a person without that person's knowledge."

"There's no such thing as a person with a direct brain-computer interface who isn't one of these Assimilators," Chen asked for clarification.

"No," Crossack sighed. "Any network they manage to link into, any person directly connected to that network immediately gets converted. How they do it, we're not sure; the leading hypothesis is that they've managed to create a computer-based intelligence with persuasive or coercive powers of a type and power that require a person to either take the Voice's Oath or else accept lifetime quarantine. But we just don't know. The good news is that as long as you keep your tech at arms length, it's perfectly safe, or at least they can't do anything that a conventional hacker couldn't. But it does mean that we can't infiltrate their network to figure out what in the seven blue perditions is going on with them. There are some aspects of a neural link that an external interface just can't mimic."

"That could be a problem," President Chen said. "Thankfully, we can't run cable through a portal--it gets cut anytime there's a power blip--but we've got way too many people with medical implants. Your people don't happen to know how to repair spinal cord injuries, do they?"

"Some species yes, others no," Crossack answered. "In our efforts to provide medical care to POWs of your species, we found that the treatment had to be provided immediately to be effective, and that which treatment protocol would work varied by both the cause of the damage and idiosyncratic factors. We had to guess right on the first try for treatment to work."

"Figures," Chen said. "Any vaccine for their nannite infiltrators?"

"A vaccine...for nannites?" Crossack asked in surprise.

"Why not?" Chen asked. "Any sufficiently advanced nano-tech is indistinguishable from biology; so why not borrow a page from the bio-control handbook?"

"I don't believe there's any such thing," Crossack answered slowly. "Many species can induce sufficient sensitivity to trigger a lethal allergic reaction, but that means walking around with a lethal allergy to many common structural and medical materials."

"That would be problematic," Chen agreed. "I need to pass this information about the Assimilators along as quickly as possible. Excuse me for a few minutes."

"Of course," Admiral Crossack said. Once President Chen had left the room he stood and began pacing. Curiously, knowing that a Voice was en route and that he would not have to wait much longer to have his hopes and fears regarding his future resolved was making the delay harder rather than easier to endure. After a few laps of failed attempts to resign himself to further waiting, he went to the door and asked the officer guarding it to find out how soon the Voice was expected to arrive.

"The Voice's shuttle has landed and the humans are trying to figure out what size and type of escort is appropriate to her rank," the officer reported. Then he blinked and flicked his tail in confusion. "Sir, a Voice is her own escort, isn't she?"

"The humans don't know that. A Voice speaks with the authority of the full Council of Winglords, but the humans have no official relationship to the Wingover Hegemony until the Voice delivers her words--assuming she has been given words to that effect."

"Precisely, Winglord Crossack."

Crossack turned to face the new arrival. The female was tall and so ethereally slender that she was nearly translucent. "Voice Laurelliana," Admiral Winglord Crossack said, having met this particular Voice before. He started to bow, but then the implications of her greeting caught up to him and his ear tufts straightened so hard they nearly snapped. "Wait, what--?"

"For recognizing that the impossible was possible in time to avert disaster, for valuing the welfare of the Heromancy above your own pride, for a lifetime of exemplary service, you have been granted the title of Winglord and a seat on the counsel."

Admiral Winglord Crossack needed some time to reply as he first had to persuade his throat to stop trying to swallow itself. At last he said, "I am well aware of how badly things could have gone if i had been any slower to admit that the humans must have some other, unknown means of bridging the distance between worlds--but i would have thought that barely enough to buy me an honorable retirement, given that i lost a war i chose to initiate. Then too, i would never have arrived at that understanding so quickly without Captain Hessend and Intelligence Officer Rouel, and their many subordinates who had the wisdom to recognize which reports required immediate attention."

"You followed standard procedure to the letter until it was made clear that you were not dealing with the kind of situation which that procedure was intended to cover. You therefore cannot be faulted for initiating the conflict. You were also able to admit that the inconceivable had occurred. To not only be able to stretch your thinking to accommodate what was previously unknown and unimagined, but to do so in time to keep defeat from becoming disaster--this is a capacity much needed in a Winglord, and rarest to find. Many prepare for the impossible; but how can anyone prepare for what he cannot imagine?"

Crossack nodded, conceding the point, and the Voice continued, "Many admirals find it almost physically painful to yield overall command to the captain of their ground forces and be relegated to providing fire support. Many of those who have no difficulty yielding command are reluctant to reclaim it when the priority returns to space-side operations, preferring to avoid responsibility. But you have never shown any hesitation in either direction, preferring to let the responsibility rest where it can best be fulfilled."

Crossacck shifted and flicked an ear tuft and said, "It helps that i trust Captain Hessend's judgement."

"And you never once have tried to claim the credit for your subordinate's efforts," Voice Laurelliana smiled at Crossack.

"Eh, stolen honor is not," Crossack replied.

"Many say it," the Voice said. "Few live it. The appropriate commendations for those you cited credited with identifying the anomalies here have already been issued. The Vaerins claim to have solved the regeneration resistance problem in draeliks; if Hero Hessend chooses to risk the as yet inadequately tested treatment, the Council will cover his expenses."

Hero fits a lot better on him than Winglord sits on me, Crossack thought. "I can't predict whether Hero Hessend will take that offer. He keeps his own counsel when it comes to his injuries."

"Is something wrong?" Voice Laurelliana asked President Chen, who'd returned partway through her conversation with Crossack and had been staring at her ever since.

"You look much like the description of some of our more insidious legends," Chen told her bluntly. "As unlikely as it is to be anything other than coincidence, it is still difficult to keep the resemblance from inducing significant levels of paranoia."

"At least you prefer to lance the boil at once rather than dance around the issue while it festers ever deeper," Laurelliana said, dropping her gaze to indicate that she was speaking as herself and not as a Voice. "Long and long ago, or so it is said, while we were still planet-bound, mine and certain of the other will-bending species dealt with those who abused their powers by exiling them to another world. Your portal network suggests that this is not so impossible as we had thought. If your species has suffered from predation by one of our outcasts, i wouldn't blame you for being paranoid where my kind is concerned."

"The conspiracy nuts are going to have fun when they hear that," Chen said with a sigh.

Voice Laurelliana lifted her head again. "The council wishes to extend formal diplomatic recognition to your people, but we are suffering from some confusion as to which entity we should be extending that recognition to. Some clarification as to your political structure is needed."

"Ah," President Chen said. "I can see how it might. Each of the factions on this planet is considered a sovereign nation, although they're a bit more easy-going about their borders than was, or for that matter still is, customary back on earth. The Faction Arbitration Council is precisely what the name says, a neutral forum in which the factions can hash out their differences and save face by accepting a compromise suggested by a neutral party instead of their opponent. We have no real authority, but we do provide a place where you can address all of the factions at once."

"It sounds as though you have all of the responsibility of a Winglord, and none of the power," Voice Laurelliana said.

Chen shrugged. "I may only have the authority of a debate moderator, but most of the time that's all i need. As for the times when it is not sufficient, well, the prospect of imminent destruction tends to have a remarkably clarifying effect on everyone's priorities."

"I suppose it would," the Voice said. "Whose military did you call in?"

"The Liberation Hegemony doesn't claim sovereignty over any but it's native States, but they do provide military protection and economic assistance to anyone who abides by what they regard as the minimum standard of human rights. Which usually works out in practice to 'you can have whatever laws you want as long as you make it easy for people who don't like your laws to leave'. Which is why you never see a planet on the Hegemony network with fewer than seven factions--easy to leave requires that there be a compatible place for you to go."

"So we can treat with your Faction Arbitration Counsel as a planetary power, and this Liberation Hegemony as a regional one?" Voice Laurelliana asked, and then added "--to the extent that that's a coherent concept with the way your portal network allegedly ignores distance."

"Yes," President Chen said. "There's also the Golden Bureaucracy Bloc. Don't buy anything from them without reading the fine print, and never take out a loan from them. The only reason they aren't ruling us all is that the Hegemony is perfectly willing to apply Alexander's solution to Gordian red tape."

"Cultural reference," the Voice said. "Not clear from context."

"Sorry," President Chen replied. "Gordias was some guy who tied a really complicated knot and said that the man who untied it would rule the world. Alexander came by a while later, looked it over, and used his sword to cut it apart. After he went on to conquer a larger chunk of the world in less time than anyone before him, the locals where Grodias left the knot decided that this counted as 'untying' it."

"So keep it simple, and in good faith, when dealing with the Hegemony, because you never know what they might decide is underhanded enough to void the contract?" Crossack guessed.

"This system of yours...works?" the Voice asked uncertainly.

"As well as anything else we've tried," Chen answered. "Mostly due to the fact that most of us have gotten too lazy to want to bother proving that we could run other people's lives better than they can. MAD helps keep the peace, too, of course. Although, the fact that exile is always an option does tend to leave people favoring lethal forms of self-defense."

"Now that would explain a lot," Winglord Crossack said. "I should go mention that detail to Hero Hessend--he's a bit sore over the fact that it was your civilians bleeding his men so hard."

EFAP Mini: Reacting to Mandalorian S02E05 - The Jedi was absolutely terrible.

TL;DR Longman bad.
EDIT: Let me say, English is my second language, i have tried to improve the English of this post but it isn't something I am great at. My apologies.
I am going to start by saying, at the beginning of every episode they complain no one brings up examples and references with their criticisms. I 99.9999% guarantee you, they will not bring up this post in a video because I am going to be going into detail about each and every bad statement they make with timestamps. If I do not mention something, you may take it as I agree with the point.
By calling this terrible I mean this is Batwoman, the man running away from electrified water levels of bad. The mandalorian face scanner levels of bad. This is going to be long and stupid levels of detail. But from the start I will say, I understand, this is live reactions so i don’t expect a thoughtful review, but it is edited so i do expect it to be done in a way that doesn’t make the cast sound completely idiotic. Most of the cast are just constantly making completely bad takes. This was by far the worst episode of this series of reactions. In general I love this reaction series and they are right about the major issues in the mandalorian but holy hell were they just terrible this episode.
Starting with the responses to the comments from the previous videos.
0:30 Seconds in Fringy says it would be nice if people said what those nitpicks, exaggerations and questions were. Well do I have just the post for you. I only point this out because they are not wrong to want this. However to show I am not a crazy person I want to mention this to show they actively have asked for this because they want to address them. Well here is their chance, spoiler, they won’t. But on the 0.00001% chance they decide to, let me say, watch how they do it. They will pause at weird moments to make jokes to undercut the logical flow of arguments. use a dismissive voice to signal to the audience what stance they should take. Of course I am only saying this to cut them off if they did decide to respond so they cannot do the same bullshit every youtuber does when they respond to comments, frame the comment as absurd, interpret it in the most easy to dismiss manner possible because the person cannot respond and presto the comment looks dumb and you look smart.
1:20 Metal says a foil is unnecessary if you are making good arguments. The problem is in this episode the cast makes few good arguments, they may need a foil to counter their own bias which is making them think this was actually “good arguments”. At 1:30, Mauler says the absolutely based Shad, god amongst the mortal EFAP cast, I cannot say enough good things about the man, was acting as a foil but then goes on to say he was making points he himself did not believe. Well, I am sure you are shocked to learn I do not think, as based as the man is, that he was not the right man for the job. If you use a foil, maybe use one that actually likes the show and believes his own arguments? Honestly not sure why Mauler thought that added to Metals point. At 2:00 minutes Mauler says he doesn’t know why they thought shad was the one to save “you”, meaning the commenter, but unless I am mistaken the cast brought up Shad, not the commenter, so why is Mauler putting that in the commenters mouth. See above about how youtubers deal with comments. Now it is possible the commenter mentions shad and was not in the comment they read out, then that is an editing mistake which normally I would leave alone but hey, if they are going to nitpick (Oh trust me we are getting to it), then so am I.
At 2:15, They show as an example. The Empire troopers are trapping Mando in the cargo control area as an example of bad combat because the storm troopers are incredibly stupid. It is valid critisism to say Stormtroopers are stupid. But personally storm troopers being stupid wouldn’t be the example I would give here, Mando running out of cover pointlessly to throw a grenade through an open door which he could have throw the grenade into anyway without leaving cover would have been the go to example of bad combat but whatever. The reason this is a sub par example is because people panicking and making a dumb choice in a high stress situation is completely in the realm of normal behaviour. It would be bad writing to have a episode hinge on this but in a random fight scene yeah it is okay. It broke up the normal shooting style fights leading up to it. It served its purpose. Not the best scene in the series but there are far better examples of bad combat. Cut the fade of Grogu with blue vomit (hint, you eat blue thing you have blue vomit?).
At 2:25, Mauler says not to expect a full deep dive. I don’t, in the edits however I do as that is not part of the live broadcast. I do also expect blatantly incorrect things to be edited out or addressed.
At 6:15 Mauler responds to a question regarding jetpack fuel. It frustrates him because Mando is a tank with infinite ammo and infinite flight abilities. Rags says he has no limits, or limiters on what he can do (laughably untrue, Rags should absolutely feel bad about this one), Mando isn’t force sensitive, he cannot use the force. Super basic limiter he has. Already Rags is just wrong without going into any level of detail at all. Mauler then immediately brings up him needing to be saved by 3 other mandalorians else he would have drowned ???? WHAT???! This is within seconds of each other in the edit. Did Mauler not even listen to this back to himself? I don’t expect his normal content level detail but I do expect some baseline level of quality. But back to the jetpack fuel, did the cast really not consider that the fuel is a very basic fuel type that is commonly available? Jetpack fuel could just be a normal fuel type that is used in many many different devices? You know like batteries in our world can be used to power a whole range of devices and are not specific to one thing? Mauler askes where Jango or Boba get this fuel as well and assumes incredible resources rather than the simple explanation, the jetpack is advanced tech, but the fuel is not…
At 7:20 Rags complains that Mando never has an item acquisition episode or part of an episode. When was the last time you complained about a show not showing someone filling up their car??!! Super strange but even so they actually have this?! Is the cast really going to ignore them showing how Mando gets the dumb hand rocket things. They literally show he got some of the real advanced stuff he has from the Armourer. And he is now out of them as far as we know and doesn’t have any more since the first episode this season, it is possible he does but I would have thought he would have used them in the Boba episode so he is probably out. But because they show where he got his advanced equipment, we can assume the stuff they don’t show specifically how he gets is not a big deal because they don’t show it. So if he gets unlimited arm rocket things that is a problem. The jetpack fuel they have never said is some big deal, so it is probably fine to assume it is not some rare thing.
At 7:50 Mauler says a person's comment saying the community is getting a little toxic is a reference to the fact there are comments that agree with the cast. I am going to point out this is on absolutely no evidence at all. Mauler is literally putting words into the commenters mouth. Remember the above why I put all that stuff in case they respond to this. That is why. Seriously watch for this, it is framing the comment in a way in which it is easily dismissible. Remember this is edited, Mauler looked at this and agreed with it, he could have edited it out if it was just a live mistake.
At 11:05 Mauler reads comment in a manner to signal to the audience that this is not a point to take seriously and that the commenter is being dumb. Refer back to youtubers framing commenters in a manor to benefit themselves in the beginning. I understand logic does not pay the bills and you have to be entertaining but you can at least be right as well. Mando certainly does have an arc regarding robots. No it is not the best arc in the world but it does exist. And the cast cannot tell a character how he should think and feel about something. At 11:20 rags says Mando should never trust another droid in his life. Rags is literally just making this up based on what? Multiple robots previously having tried to kill Grogu? Does he not remember the arc at all? Yes in the beginning robots do that, what happens in the final episodes of season one? Hmmmm?! Seriously, it is an arc, you cannot take a bit from the fourth? (I think) episode where a robot tries to kill Grogu and pretends that is where things left off. The arc has an ending, go rewatch the last episode of the first season.
At 12:00 The cast talks about the Krayt Dragon and why the people don’t move. They are poor? Have you seen the town? Do you need everything spelled out for you? I don’t know if you know this but poor people have very little choice but to stick around because they don’t have the finances to just leave. I don’t know maybe you have never been poor but upending your life away from your source of income is not something poor people can do. I don’t know if you noticed, Tatooine is rather barren, a creature that size honestly cannot exist there but if it did, it would have to migrate to find food. The Krayt Dragon is probably a new thing having recently migrated into the area, they have only been seen a few times and as such just haven’t abandoned town yet. Speculation but this isn’t a deep dive into the life cycle of the Krayt Dragon, It is a dumb action show, it is probably reasonable to assume people are okay without knowing the life cycle of the Krayt Dragon. But as it happens we do kind of know what they eat, They eat the Sarlacc, the creature that Eats Boba in ROTJ. Not something they are going to be able to find in the same place all the time. Something they are going to have to move about the find… point is there are completely explainable reasons why they haven’t left yet. At 12:30 Mauler asks why they don’t just have a ship if they are scared of ships…. They are poor. This is pretty self explanatory. You shouldn’t need this pointed out. This is the reason why half the dialogue in movies is exposition at this point.
Now onto the show. 15:50, Rags complains every planet is a shit hole and asks if there are nice places to live in star wars. Really strange commentary. Yes there are, we have seen them primarily in the prequel trilogy. Strange thing to complain about. The story isn’t in a safe place??? Followed by some nonsense comments about reverse grip. This is just really strange commentary. Snide comments without pointing to direct flaws just as the cast accuses the comments of doing. The cast could point out holding a sword like that makes no sense as it destroys your range of motion but nope. Vague and largely useless commentary.
16:30 they ask why the robots (edit: apparently they are people, still they are expendable to evil lady is the point) are on that side of the wall. They are looking for Asohka and completely expendable? Asohka isn't some big army, she is one person, the bad guys think they have the advantage and hiding behind a wall vas 1 person seems like a dumb idea letting the person get away to attack again when you aren't ready. Mauler then notes there is lots of fog… I don’t know if he has ever been in fog, it is thicker in some places than in others. That level of fog is not ever super abnormal for many places on earth. I really don’t see the issue in fog existing.
At 18:20 Rags complains about Grogu using the force to take the gear stick? Knob. This is literally setting the scene for later in the episode when Mando uses it to get Grogu to show his powers. Yeah They don’t know this yet but they are shitting on a scene with a specific purpose. If you don’t know why something is happening it is bad it seems? This scene is pretty simple story telling, and a very clear example of the cast going the show sucks therefore the scene sucks. Not the scene sucks therefore the show sucks. This is a good scene setting something up for later in the show.
At 18:40 Rags complains about Mando not landing in the city. Perhaps the city does not allow random ships to land there as is most likely the case if he waited 5 minutes to see what the city is like…. Or paid attention to the episode's intro, It is kind of locked down because of Asohka. But seriously Mando, close the door to your chip, I get CGI budget is expensive but close your door Mando..
At 18:55 Rags complains Grogu has a choking hazard just before Mando takes it away from him. It's live I get it, but it was edited, this could very easily have been removed. Also Mando has constantly taken it away from Grogu throughout both seasons. Why would he assume Mando is letting him have it? At 19:08 Mauler says this is a rare moment of him parenting, that is just dumb, most episodes have at least one scene of Mando and Grogu in a parent child role. That I have never heard the cast ask why Mando doesn’t just dump the kid and go his own way shows they, so far, kind of buy that mando cares for the kid and it isn’t just some strange unexplainable choice.
At 19:50 we get the hard hitting comment that it would be funny if mando had gone to a side of the city without a gate. WTF? The character isn’t acting dumb enough so lets makes up a situation where the character does something sufficiently dumb?
At 20:25 Mauler complains that they didn’t collect Mando as he entered the city. Perhaps the Leader of the city isn’t told instantly when something happens? Maybe When she heard she asked for him to be brought to her? This is really super explainable and what you would really expect to happen.
At 21:15 Mauler I believe says Mando isn’t well suited for killing the Jedi… I get at this point he doesn’t know Beskar can block lightsabers. But once again this is edited. Out of everyone on the planet, he probably stands the best chance with his armour (He doesn’t actually stand a chance though Jedi OP.). He then complains about a robot acting like a robot??? The cast don’t let the scene play out and as such make comments before understanding why the spear is important. It is beskar. Super obvious foreshadowing… Mando is going to use this weapon to fight the dark saber dude in the last episode! WOW! Honestly so far I don’t think there has been any real criticism of the episode.
At 22:30 Fringy is amused that the town has coordinates for where the person who attacked them the night before and said they would come back the next day is. Would you not track this person?
At 23:10 Mauler complains Asohka chooses to attack him in his non armoured spots.. He literally moves his armoured arm to intercept??? And yeah Beskar blocks light sabers, this is why it is super valuable. It is super protective. It is honestly wasted being used as armour for a soldier. I am really happy with Fringy here though… Why on earth was Vader not covered in this stuff? It does fuck with so much of the cannon. Every lightsaber wielder would want this stuff and given every mandalorian has some, it isn’t so rare that Vader himself couldn’t have it..
At 24:35 the cast expresses doubt over Grogu being trained. The little dude is 50ish years old. It is well established lore that the Jedi like them young. The earlier they train them the better. This is literally them being consistent with cannon, you know the thing EFAP is meant to expect of the writing.
25:00 Rags predicts Mando must free the village to get Grogu trained, spoiler. No, apparently not.
At 25:05, the cast say they aren’t stopping grogu from sleeping. You know except having a fire and talking about who teaches a toddler… Do you guys have kids?. Yes, you teach your kid to do shit. Besides the ridiculousness of THIS IS AN ALIEN, WE DON’T KNOW WHAT AGES ARE APPROPRIATE TO TEACH IT THINGS. I mean seriously, it can apparently do some force powers already, its not like it has shown this thing as completely incapable and then springing this on us.
At 25:25 Rags says Grogu can do things Yoda couldn’t do in his infancy… like what? Seriously… like what? Yoda could pick up far more than a charging fake Rhino. (Edit: going to remind people force heal has existed in Star Wars cannon for a long time, it is dumb that it exists but it is possible that Grogu might know it as he has been trained)
25:34, Rags complains about seeing the Force in star wars… at this point you are just watching the wrong thing if you don’t want to see the force. We have gone 1 and a half seasons without seeing a “jedi” and you see one once and it is too much. Maybe star wars just isn’t for you. Never mind that Grogu has been there the entire time with his force stuff and nothing was mentioned??? Even so this is undoubtedly a light force usage series, which I like, the jedi aren’t the focus here, but complaining about the force existing in a star wars show seems like you are just watching the wrong thing. Go watch CSI or something. And no this has nothing to do with the writing, but purely because Rags does not want to see the thing in star wars that star wars is most known for…
26:36, Good job Metal, you understand the scene from the beginning of the show reminding the person watching about the ball. Unironically good comment. A show sets something up and uses it. It's like story writing 101.
27:25 Mauler complains about established star wars cannon that attachment makes Grogu vulnerable to his fears. This is a good thing the show does, it respects the cannon and here it is dismissed as, oh you are still doing that???? At this point the cast are just complaining about Star wars lore. You don’t have to like star wars lore but complaining that the show is consistent with it?????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This ain't it.
At 28:00, Mauler complains that one time training a fearful kid went bad is not a good reason not to do it again… lets not forget Anakin is Asohkas master, the person who went bad was probably the person closest to her in the entire world. That affects a person. Yeah she isn’t being rational here. She is being normal as fuck, the things you have lived through affect your decisions. You shouldn’t need this spelled out for you. They should have been more forward with she was Anakin's padawan but there's no way the cast don’t know that.
At 28:50, there is a whole thing about Republic vs CIS, Watch the Clone wars. The mandalorian tells you what happened with the leader ladies home world, if you want the backstory of the clone wars watch the shows that deals with the backstory???? Yeah in cannon the CIS were pretty shitty. The republic for the most part were the good guys. As with everything exceptions apply.
29:40, rags says so she can cut through the bell and Fringy comments but she cannot cut through Beskar??????? Yes…? Different metals react differently. Copper vs steel. which is tougher hmmmmm???? To make it worse Rags says it should be difficult to cut the bell thing like the blast doors in ep 1. A bell thing, mostly hollow to make a noise (Makes no sense in a high tech setting) vs a door that is designed to be hard to get through??????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on this is just silly.
At 30:30, Mauler questions why these people think they have a chance. These people have not seen or Heard of a Jedi a Jedi in like 30 years. They don’t know shit about a Jedi. this is like 30 years after revenge of the Sith right? They have never seen a Jedi…. This is a super simple mistake where you assume the character knows everything you know. Of course this is only ending one way, but as a character you see a person with glowing swords…. You are not going to be that scared.
At 31:00 Mauler questions why a man moves towards him??? The man recognizes him from earlier and is coming towards him and stops when a gun is pointed towards him?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
31:20 Generic complaints which amount to absolutely nothing.. Why Jedi act spooky? Why action show lady do action show thing? Why blaster not kill Jedi? Why tech require pump action? This is just nonsense complaints. That are not real problems.
At 32:45 Rags says If 3 people shoot at a Jedi they are done for. Not sure what he has watched but that certainly isn't the case in pretty much any star wars media.
In general the biggest criticisms the cast issue are generally pretty valid and this is the first such one in this episode. The fight between Asohka and the leader lady should have been a non issue. That was clearly artificially making the climax something more than the story dictated. Likewise, the action is pretty bad, Ashoka could have finished this off so easy in so many ways. The fight looks somewhat cool superficially but like much of the action in this series it doesn’t hold up. Also the final show down with Mando while I like the visual it relies on the bad guy being over confident and dumb which is fine but it could have been a but more satisfying. I still liked it as I am a fan of westerns.
35:20 Rags complains everything is lame, I really am not seeing it. We had a pretty solid yet simple episode. I honestly think this is just a personal preference thing, not a writing thing. Star wars is just not for Rags. Which is okay. But I have seen very little from Rags which is remotely valid so far.
35:49 Rags mentions they voted some guy to become leader last night. He was the leader before the crazy woman took over the town. Fringy says it and it is true.
36:00 The cast are literally complaining about Mando being honourable. And ask if Asohka is going with Mando… why would she? She is getting her own show… But it makes sense in terms of the story as well. She isn't training Grogu, she has her own mission... Why would she stay?
At 36:34 they are talking shit about this being a dead end, if you wait a moment the episode tells them exactly what is happening…. You cannot complain about something and then the episode delivers on it and not mention it.
At 36:48 They mention a tracker… almost as if that is coming real soon huh?
At 37:25 they express disbelief an infant can express their own path. Once again. ALIEN SPECIES THAT DEVELOP DIFFERENT THAN HUMANS.
From here they just complain about why an actor was in this… who cares?! It has nothing to do with the story making sense. They could have gotten Brad Pitt to play the random robot number 4 and it wouldn’t affect anything. They complain we see Mando is resistant to all forms of damage… the other characters don’t see this… we do. Does the cast understand viewpoints?! That isn’t to say people don’t make dumb choices. People certainly do. And it is a low point of the show when the bad guys don’t realise how bad the odds are for them. But other than a few dumb bad guys there really isn’t much criticism here that I can take seriously.
But yeah that is it, after this they go onto a more general review of the series which i could go over but I have spent enough time on this and I want to focus on this one episode. There is just so little in this that makes any sense that I am just disappointed. Still love the reaction Mini EFAPs but I expect better than this episode.

My 2020 gaming experiences :)

I am a relatively recent lurker of patientgamers after finding difficulty in enjoying the atmosphere of gaming. I've really loved reading all your patient gaming reviews, and hope that you don't mind me marking my entry into engaging with this subreddit with some mini-reviews of my own. I don't believe in scoring games and much prefer the substance of a review, but I have included scores for the reader's benefit. I have tried to be as objective as possible while also giving you insight into why I play and love these games - in that respect the value of the score may seem wildly different from how I speak about the game in the review. Let me know what you think of my opinions, and I'm always open to suggestions on the next game to try out. :)
Pokémon Sword
I am a long-time Pokémon fan so I was always going to buy the next in the series, regardless of its reception. I thought Let’s Go! was an admirable return to the Kanto era which scratched my itch for nostalgia and also brought something new to the table without completely changing everything - I appreciated that very much. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more excited for a mainline entry. Pokémon is Pokémon, so for Sword/Shield to have disappointed me would have taken some really heavy updates to the formula. Of course the game delivered. However, I won’t pretend that it’s one of the best in the series, or even in my top half. The battling mechanics are the same with the removal of Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves and the addition of Dynamaxing and Gigantomaxing. I miss the Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves but their removal brought more balance to the game, and the effects of Dynamaxing and Gigantomaxing are slightly more complex and interesting to work around. There are new pokémon available, some of which are very cool, but a lot of my favourites have also been taken out. This, too, isn’t much of a big deal, though I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly upset that Dunsparce and Zoroark weren’t available without the DLC. The story, characters and setting are okay. The game touches on enough English folklore and mythology to make a coherent story, but I feel like its neglect of Scottish, Welsh and Irish mythology is a wasted opportunity. There are some nice twists and curveballs and a lot of the characters are likable, but nothing is better than any of the other instalments. I think the music and audio is quite weak in this instalment too, and the visuals are a bit of a letdown. I do like the vastness of the Wild Area and the ability to see pokémon before you battle them, but I would have enjoyed more smaller areas spread throughout the region too. Like I say, Pokémon is Pokémon, so of course the game is good, but it’s not quite the standard I’m used to. 7/10
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
I bought my then-girlfriend this for her birthday, knowing she would love it; then she bought it for mine. Animal Crossing is a joy to play. Even if you’re not into those kinds of games - and I am usually not, although I would love to be - the game is technically brilliant. I played the hell out of this game for a while, knowing I would burn out soon enough, but I lasted longer than I expected. The game looks great and sounds great. The characters are still fantastic and the island approach is a breath of fresh air for the series. Connecting with other players is easier than it ever has been and the crafting system is easy to get into and extremely fun to reap the rewards of. My only real criticism of the game is that it feels like it’s missing something, whereas New Leaf felt very much like a complete package. Perhaps I had a greater expectation for variety in items and furniture, or perhaps I was hoping for more things to do beyond the daily grind of talking to villagers, hunting fossils, farming resources and mass-producing hot items to sell. Perhaps I’m just letting nostalgia goggles for New Leaf get the better of me. Regardless, although I feel like the game could be bigger, it is an absolute joy to play and it clearly knows its audience very well. 8/10
God of War (2018)
I started playing this game again from the beginning quite recently, after a years-long hiatus. God of War was always the game I would show people who were thinking of getting a PS4 because I really felt like this was the game to own. I played through a fair bit during my more cocktailish days - and while I really enjoyed myself playing it, I can’t say I remember much. I then left the game to gather dust to work/university commitments plus general depression. I have now jumped back into it - sober, this time - and I must say it is absolutely blowing me away. The game feels difficult, but never unfair. The combat is simply perfect with various ways of approaching your enemies. I was never a real fan of hack-and-slash like the original series - although I appreciate that is a me problem - so combat in this instalment was more my style. The visuals are impeccable, the sound effects and music go perfectly. The characters are so emotionally powerful and engrossing - even the ones you only hear about - and the way the game handles Norse mythology is very admirable. I am not yet finished with the game - I am currently whittling away at Sigrun’s health while underleveled - but I am loving every single second of it. 10/10
Final Fantasy VII
I kept buying this game on different systems - PS3, PSP, PS4 - with every intention of playing it through. I watched and liked Advent Children; I loved the designs of Cloud and Sephiroth; I enjoyed the Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts - but I just could not get into this game. I always liked what I played. I thought the combat system was fun and held up well. But this game demanded a level of attention I could never give it whenever I tried. I came to the conclusion that it is because I just don’t have the patience for long, grind-heavy role-playing games, but this didn’t make a lot of sense initially considering my love for Pokémon. Regardless, I’ve been desperate to play Final Fantasy VII Remake, but promised myself I would not play it until I had at least finished playing through the story of the original, and I committed to this promise by rebuying Final Fantasy VII on the Switch so I could take it to work with me. I played at x3 speed and didn’t beat myself up for resorting to walkthroughs here and there, or for using the HP/MP/DRIVE refresh cheat in particularly difficult battles. I don’t know what changed this time - perhaps it was that I had given myself the OK to use cheats if I needed to, or perhaps it was that I was focusing mostly on story and characters, or perhaps I just grew and changed as a person - but the experience was phenomenal. Despite the aged visuals and how goofy it can be at times, everything about this game was warm and charming. It feels like the definitive story RPG to me now, and it has me not only excited for the Remake, not only excited to play through other Final Fantasies, but also just to revisit Final Fantasy VII again and try things out a little differently. After a long relationship filled with complications and committal problems between this game and I, I am mesmerised that it is now becoming one of my all-time favourites. 9/10
Super Mario 64
I finished the story of this game during a 3D Mario marathon directly before Odyssey came out. I like the game and I think it holds up well. I think this game could have done the bare minimum and still would have come out on top as one of the most important video games of all time; but this game is also really, really good. It’s clever, it’s fast and it’s rewarding. I replayed it again recently in the 3D All-Stars collection, this time collecting all 120 stars, and the game still holds up. My only real criticisms are the camera angles and the fluidity of the controls are often compromised to the point of frustration. I prefer my Mario games to be cerebral, but these shortcomings detract from the experience and do not make it feel like a satisfying defeat. That said, it obviously didn’t put me off enough because I kept coming back for more, and eventually completing this game was incredibly satisfying. I can see this game being one I revisit often. 8/10
Super Mario Sunshine
Again, a game I finished prior to the release of Odyssey and one I (very briefly) revisited in the 3D All-Stars Collection. I think the first 3D Mario game I played was Galaxy, then bought Sunshine when I found it cheap in CEX but never got around to playing it until the aforementioned mariothon. I don’t know what it is about this game, but I just don’t like it. I like the visual style - the exaggerated, droopy style is cool and the colours are vibrant. The audio is fantastic in its own way. I think the idea, on paper, is very intriguing and attractive. But I don’t like it. I find a lot of it frustrating. I find a lot of it slow. More than anything, I find a lot of it boring. Perhaps it’s the vaguely open-world levels which never feel different from each other; perhaps it’s the reliance on water physics; perhaps it’s just not the game for me, or maybe I was burnt out from investing so much time in Mario 64 directly beforehand. The best parts in this game, to me, were the secret area platforming stages, but even those were no better than the average level of another Mario game. I will come back to it again, but I do not see myself enjoying this game. I don’t think it’s an especially bad game, per se, but I find it to be a very boring Mario game, which is not what I expect from this IP. 3/10
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
I’ve always loved Smash Bros. The idea of crossing characters from various unrelated games into a grandiose side-scrolling battle royale is wonderful. I’ve always hated playing Smash Bros. The people I played it with have always been too serious, and me not serious enough. At times I’ve tried to practice at it, before realising how unfulfilling it is for me to do so. I know a lot of people are very into it competitively, and I appreciate and support that, but all I really wanted from it was a fun party game for when people are staying over. It is testament to Smash Bros’ quality that it is capable of doing both extremely well. Now that I am living with like-minded people who jump into Smash Bros for the same energetic, non-competitive adrenaline I crave, I am loving this game in wholly different ways. The roster, for one, is incredible. Characters, stages, music tracks - there’s so much content here. The variety is immense, not only in the quantity and quality of this content, but also in how the rules can be manipulated. Whether it’s time or stock, items or no items, hazards on or off - you can play the way you want to play. For someone like me, Ultimate is the definitive experience. This is now my go-to game for coming home and relaxing with my housemates. As a multiplayer party experience and as a celebration of videogaming, this game excels in every way. The main criticisms I have of this game are the nonsensical menus and the completely lacking single-player experience. 8/10
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
I bet this is my most played game of all time. This is without a doubt the definitive Mario Kart experience, and I will fight off Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii supporters wherever. Everything about this entry, mechanics-wise, is polished to the point of perfection. I am gagging for another mainline entry, but I honestly feel like just more DLC would be fine, as I have nothing to complain about with regards the item/drifting/kart aspects of the game. Content-wise, it’s probably the best the series has to offer. I’m not quite sure why the Koopa Kids and all those babies are there, or why behemoths such as Birdo, Honey Queen and R.O.B. are missing, but the addition of the likes of Link and Isabelle do make up for it. It has the best roster of courses in the series - though the lack of DK Mountain hurts hard. Apart from those largely subjective problems, the only real criticism I have is that, as an ongoing popular Switch title, more content ought to have been developed for it since the WiiU DLC. 9/10
Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4: Road to Boruto
I love Naruto, possibly more than I love any other series or lore. I am absolutely filled to the brim with knowledge about it. It is the single franchise which I own more things from than anything else. I am a huge lover of literature and literary criticism, and I aspire to be an English literature teacher, so I applied this to the themes, dialogue and characters of Naruto, as strange as that sounds, and feel like I can appreciate it all over again. More than anything, it just cushioned my heart. When I was younger I would watch, or read, or just think about this series when I was overwhelmed or anxious and get lost in it. Even these days, in my mid-20s, if I start to feel like I’m dissociating then I can incorporate my knowledge of Naruto into lists (characters in order of appearance; jutsu in order of appearance; etc.) which will keep my mind active until I'm back in reality. If I’m relaxing, and I want to write but can’t bring myself to put pen to paper, I will go on Quora and answer people’s questions about the series. I want you to know how biased I am; if you said I could only play one game for the rest of my life, it would be Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4: Road to Boruto. This game feels like a love letter to me. It looks and sounds just like the anime. The combat is basic and easy, so I have just as much fun jumping into it after a months-long hiatus. The story is told extremely well, with loads of care and genuine fanatical love. There is so much content that the roster never seems to end. And I can approach it much in the same way I approach my dissociative listing - play every fight in historical order, play as every character in a canon fight in the order they appear, etc. I will never not have fun with this game. I owned this game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and when I noticed it came out on Nintendo Switch with new characters and costumes, of course I bought it. It looks as good as always and plays as good as always. It is very easy to get into and love if you are equipped to do so. As a single-player experience and a couch multiplayer experience it is decent, but as an online experience it suffers. As a Naruto experience it is exceptional, and I feel like it often tells the story of Naruto better than the anime does. If you are a fan of Naruto, or are hoping to appreciate the world of Naruto, this game is absolutely worth it. If not, then it’s a fun, not-too-serious fighting game which plays fast and looks amazing. 6/10
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory
Kingdom Hearts is another series which means a lot to me. I was as surprised as I wasn’t surprised to learn that there was a rhythm-action entry coming out. I was as surprised as I wasn’t surprised to learn that this entry was canon to the story. And I was as surprised - for I had not mentioned it to anybody - as I wasn’t surprised - for my love of Kingdom Hearts is no secret to those dear to me - that my housemate got me it for Christmas. All I can say is that I am thoroughly enjoying it, and I am surprised that I am enjoying it too. I have dabbled in rhythm-action in the past - Dance Dance Revolution, Hatsune Miku, Donkey Konga, Elite Beat Agents - but would not consider myself to be a die-hard fan of the genre. Melody of Memory feels like a breath of fresh air - for me - to both the genre and to the Kingdom Hearts franchise itself. It works incredibly well with the Kingdom Hearts enemies and soundtracks, and the sheer amount of content is certainly impressive. My main criticisms are a few strange choices with regards to mission objectives, but apart from that there is little for me to complain about. I imagine it is not the greatest of rhythm-action games; and I certainly know that it is not the greatest of Kingdom Hearts games. That doesn’t stop it from being a fun entry in the series, and a well-deserved break from the story to appreciate just how silly it all is. 7/10
No More Heroes
I bought this for the Wii when it first came out - I always appreciated it but couldn’t really get into it. I got as far as the third boss before calling it quits, but as I said earlier, I am not a huge fan of hack-and-slash type games. I rebought it for the Switch when it came out earlier this year and I am finding the same problems. A lot of the characters are really cool, and I like the general aesthetic of it all, but I am finding it quite boring so far. In particular I dislike the Grand Theft Auto-style sandbox area, as I do not feel the game’s concept or story lend themselves to it. The hack and slash combat I do not mind so much, and the boss battles I really enjoy. I will still take it just a little bit at a time, and hope to enjoy the later stages and Desperate Struggle a bit more. For now, though, I’m sadly disappointed. 4/10
The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us was a really significant game to me when it first came out. I felt like zombie apocalypse had been done to death and just wasn’t that interested in it; I only bought it because I had money to spare and my friend recommended it for a drinking night with a bunch of other friends. I wasn’t too impressed at first, but I came back to it later, and holy shit. The on-edge combat, the multiple ways to approach things, the gross, cool enemies and the fantastic character development. The Last of Us quickly became one of my all-time favourites, and I then introduced it to someone who would become my girlfriend - we loved it. When Part II came out we snapped it up and played it the same way we played the first one. I was hesitant at first, but really this game delivers. I don’t think it will be as special to me as the first one is, but it’s technically brilliant. It’s not as tight as the first one either, but that added depth gives it a real breath of fresh air, in my eyes. I couldn’t possibly choose which one is best - they’re both masterpieces. 10/10

Transcript of May 5, 1986 Politburo Meeting about Chernobyl liquidation

This is taken from the book Chernobyl. Days and Years by Vladimir Maleev (Чернобыль. Дни и годы / В.Н. Малеев). Translation is mine. The full transcript of this Politburo meeting regarding the Chernobyl disaster relief efforts and the shortcomings being faced is a historical record of tremendous importance, yet it has never been translated to English. Only brief summaries of it have been included in some books. Author Vladimir Maleev is a retired colonel commanding the chemical warfare troops which were tasked with the removal of nuclear waste. He became a historian and professor in the military academy after leaving active duty. A few interesting things to note:

GORBACHEV: We need to take stock of the work done by the Task Force and the Government Commission in recent days. Is there clarity about what is going on and what might happen? Some hypothesize that the development of the situation may necessitate the expansion of the eviction zone to 500 km, others believe that in any development of events it will not be more than 150-200 meters. Still others are of the opinion that such measures will not be required at all. We must carefully listen to reports on these issues and summarize them. In conversation with Velikhov, I felt that one way or another the case was approaching an outcome. Now is not the time to deal with the reasons. The main thing at the moment is what to do. Should I invite foreigners? Velikhov said that it would be possible to invite Kindner (USA) to Moscow. Another question is the robots from Federal Republic of Germany. Need to clarify these and other issues and act more decisively, because time is running out.
RYZHKOV: As you know, on the night of April 25-26, a serious accident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant Unit 4, associated with the explosion of a nuclear reactor and radioactive contamination of the adjacent area and the spread of radioactivity through the atmosphere, the other parts of the country and abroad. The main directions of work to eliminate the consequences of the accident were determined by decisions of the Politburo. Immediately after the accident, the Politburo set clear tasks for the party and state bodies, the Armed Forces, the Academy of Sciences, ministries and departments to localize the accident, carry out the necessary work among the population to find employment, create proper living conditions, maintain order and discipline. To investigate the reasons and take the necessary measures, a Government Commission was created on April 26th under the leadership of the Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, Comrade B. E. Shcherbina -including leading specialists and scientists, senior officials of the KGB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Council of Ministers of Ukraine. The commission started the work on the same day. The work to eliminate the accident from the first hour was under the constant control of the Politburo of the Central Committee and the General Secretary of Comrade M. Gorbachev. On April 28 and 29, this issue was specially considered by the Politburo. At the second meeting of the Politburo, a special Task Force of the Politburo was created to manage the elimination of the consequences of this accident.
Since April 29, the Task Force has been reviewing the state of affairs on a daily basis, analyzing the state of affairs and making operational decisions. These are the organizational forms. Allow me, as instructed by the Task Force, to report on the state of affairs, the measures taken and the problems which need special attention. In our report today there will be no conclusions about the causes of this emergency in such a scale and the consequences of the accident. The commission is working, but there are no final conclusions yet. There will be no final conclusions on the actions of all services, divisions, and local bodies in these conditions. The preliminary conclusion is that, extreme circumstances have shown in practice the high level of organization of some and the absolute helplessness of others.
Presumably, after the situation is normalized, these issues will be the subject of a special investigation by the Politburo for the necessary conclusions and approval of a whole range of measures. The decision of the Politburo about our trip with Comrade E.K. Ligachev to the area of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was timely and correct. Familiarization with the situation on site, consideration of the main issues there related to the elimination of the consequences of the accident, as well as meeting with people – all this made it possible to draw a more complete and realistic picture of what happened and assess the tasks we are facing more in depth. The trip to Chernobyl has shown: -that it is necessary to act faster in all areas, using all available opportunities and resources, that any departmental barriers are unacceptable;
– that our main task is all sorts of acceleration of the work to prevent the dangerous consequences of the accident in the reactor;
– that the elimination of consequences at the nuclear power plant will take a long time and therefore all organizations and services related to this issue must have well thought out and coherent long-term work plans among themselves.
What is the current situation and what are the priority issues requiring urgent solutions?
First, the Unit 4.
Considering that the explosion has destroyed the reactor and all the equipment was out of order, the Government Commission, on the recommendation of the scientists, decided to use the air force to throw sand containing boron and lead into the reactor. This made it possible to reduce the emission of radioactive particles and normalize the radiation situation. Helicopter aviation has proven itself very good in this business -working well, harmoniously and selflessly. The most dangerous situation is now emerging at this very facility. As you know, there is no chain reaction process in the reactor, but decay of radioactive elements. Scientists put forward two versions of the further course of the events: a) gradually the heat release will weaken, the temperature and radioactivity will decrease. According to their calculations, it will take several months; b) the second hypothesis about the further development of the process is that there is an extreme danger with unpredictable consequences. This is substantiated by the President of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Comrade A.P. Aleksandrov, Academician Legasov, and others. Its meaning lies in the fact that the temperature can theoretically rise to 28,000 C, all metal elements in the reactor zone will melt, in this high temperatures the concrete ceiling will practically not be able to hold this mass and it will fall into the pool of water below the reactor.
The effects:
a) instantaneous vaporization occurs with the final destruction of unit 4 and destruction of unit 3, the release of a huge mass of radioactive elements with consequences hard to predict, but many times more severe than it is now;
b) prerequisites for a chain reaction are created, that is, an atomic explosion with even more catastrophic consequences. The operational group of the Politburo and the Government Commission firmly believes that this is the main danger today and even if there is one percent of such a possibility, all efforts must be made to eliminate the conditions for the development of these processes. To do that, it is necessary to remove about 5 thousand cubic meters of water.
This is a complicated matter. There are still no final decisions, although engineering troops, the Ministry of Transport and Construction, the Ministry of Coal Industry, and Ministry of Geology have been sent to solve it. Certainly a solution will be found, but every minute is precious now, since according to data for May 4, the temperature inside is rising and the core is sinking. The latest news from Comrade I.S. Silaev, The Ministry of Energy, together with the Ministry of Defense, has taken measures to control units 1,2 and 3. The work is organized and everything is under control.
Second. Radiation situation in the station area.
As you know, the settlement of the Pripyat station was the most affected. The population was evacuated from it on the first day. The evacuation was carried out swiftly and in an orderly manner. About 40 thousand people were moved out. The population welcomed the evacuees well. Taking the radiation situation into account, it was decided to evacuate the entire population from the zone with a radius of 10 kilometers and this operation was carried out on May 2 and 3. It was decided to evacuate the population from a radius of 30 kilometers. The evacuation was carried out yesterday. Thus, about 100 thousand people were removed from the zone (including two regions of Belarus). The zone is now practically empty.
Despite the organized work on the first evacuation, it is necessary to draw conclusions from the existing shortcomings. Inspection on the spot showed that there is no complete clarity regarding the location of the people, there is no clear record -part of the evacuated population of about 5-6 thousand people are lost in fact, it is not known where they are, including the communists. Many issues of employment, providing money for living, warm clothes, etc. have not been resolved. People sometimes do not raise these issues acutely, because they think they would return to their homes in a week or two.
And the issue of medical care for the population is especially acute. It is completely unacceptable that in such a potentially dangerous area, the health authorities were not ready, did not have a clear plan of action in the face of a threatening situation. People who arrived at the place of evacuation were not even given a basic blood test. You can imagine what would happen here if something more serious happened.
Third. The healthcare.
Medicine turned out to be one of the weak points. Minister Comrade Burenkov was simply unable to cover this volume of work, he was simply helpless. The question arises: Is the right person in charge of the country’s healthcare? The medicine of Ukraine and the government of the republic were not in the best position. In the evacuation areas, a system for checking the people moved out of the contaminated areas has not been organized yet, at best they were washed and their blood pressure was checked -people are nervous, not knowing whether they were irradiated or not. Comrade Shcherbitsky and Comrade Lyashko should not take offense, but in my opinion, they did not even know the true state of affairs in this matter, and if they did, they did not take effective measures.
A decision has now been made. From May 4, all medical work in the area of the zone will be entrusted to the medical service of the Ministry of Defense. Yesterday at the Operations Group, General Komarov reported on the turn of work. This is done on a large scale and thoroughly. 7 thousand people will be examined per day, if necessary, primary hospitalization is carried out with transfer to the hospitals of the Ministry of Health. In the system of the Ministry of Health, the Task Force has created a special medical commission headed by the First Deputy Minister, which is entrusted with the task of solving all issues of hospitalization and treatment of victims, providing medical instruments and medicines. I must say that this issue is not worked out at all in the Ministry of Health, and you have to develop and make decisions on the go.
After the creation of the group (May 1), the work intensified. As of May 4, the medical situation is as follows:
1882 people were hospitalized, including 445 children, including 570 people were admitted on May 3 (454 of them in Ukraine); radioactive objects detected in 201 people, including 61 children. According to experts, the victims will keep coming. It was decided to involve the world-famous scientists from the USA in the treatment, Professors Gale and Tarasaki .
Further on. Decontamination of the contaminated area. The affected area is conventionally divided into 3 zones:
a) directly at the nuclear power plant and the energy facilities of Pripyat, where an unprotected person is not allowed. This zone is not controlled by the troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – units of the Ministry of Defense work in it;
b) a zone with a radius of 10 km;
c) a zone with a radius of 30 km.
In all zones, and especially in the first one, a huge amount of work is to be done to decontaminate the area. For these purposes, chemical troops numbering more than 2 thousand men with the appropriate equipment were deployed into the zone, forming the civil defense. Capital work on cleaning the area has not yet been carried out, which, in the opinion of the Operational Group, is unacceptable, since we can’t wait for the emission from the damaged reactor to stop in the near future. We need to work out the technology. The biggest difficulties will be in Pripyat where it is necessary to flush all the houses and plow the land several times.
The chief of the chemical forces was instructed to draw up a work plan and submit it to the Task Force with a tight deadline on May 6, since, according to the information of the chief of chemical forces, this work will take 1-2 years. One cannot agree with this. It is quite obvious that the chemical troops must be significantly strengthened, and comrade Sokolov should start this work immediately. The performance of civil defense work will not be significantly affected. It is not established and basically duplicates other branches of the armed forces or party organizations. This applies to both the central administration and Ukrainian republican bodies of Civil Defense. There is no clarity, no plan, no proper organizations that we have seen earlier in reports and boards. The highest priority today is to protect in the first zone from the possible washout of the rain with contaminated particles drifting into the rivers. This is a very dangerous business.
A decision has been made, and yesterday the forces of the engineering troops of the Moscow District have deployed to work on the construction of a 10-kilometer dam, laying a 3-kilometer pipeline to discharge storm water from the station and the village into a special reservoir, and sheltering a highly contaminated area. We must continue this work, not dwell on the bare minimum. It is necessary to create dams 30 kilometers long in the next day or two. Instructed to make purchases of some chemical reagents and equipment controlled by radio from France and West Germany. Units and equipment are being sent to the zone as the need arises. Currently, about 7 thousand people of the Ministry of Defense units work in the zone, about 3 thousand people of the Ministry of Internal Affairs troops and the same number in the reserve. Heads of ministries and departments, scientists and specialists, equipment and materials have been promptly sent.
The radiation situation
The zone of increased (to varying degrees) radioactivity now covers the territory from the western border of the Soviet Union to Ryazan and Volgograd in the east, the North Caucasus, Crimea in the south, Estonia and the Leningrad region in the north. In recent days, radioactivity has spread mainly in the southeastern and southern directions and according to the latest data, it is already registered in the North Caucasus and in the coastal regions of the Black Sea. Egress to Turkey is possible. The value of radioactivity in most areas exceeds the natural background by 5-10 times, which is, of course, an alarming factor, but does not yet require special immediate measures, but requires our respective services and all local authorities to be on alert. On the western borders of the Soviet Union, there was a gradual drop of radiation levels. On the border with Poland and in the western part of Belarus it fell to natural background level. On the Romanian border, there has been no further increase in radiation levels over the past two days. However, the egress of radioactive products to the territory of Romania and Bulgaria may continue in limited quantities. In the area adjacent to the nuclear power plant, the total radiation level has decreased by about 2 times over the past few days, but remained at a dangerous level.
Due to the southerly direction of the wind, the situation in the Kiev region has deteriorated, the radiation level from April 30 (7x the background) to May 4 rose to 85x the background. However, at 7 am the radiation level in Kiev was 45x the background. In Zhlobin, where many foreign specialists are located, the background radiation has decreased by 2 times in 3 days (to 2x the background). In Moscow, the radiation level remained within the background (although Iodine elements were noticed).
The General Situation
During the trip we were able to make sure that our people, party cadres are enduring the difficulties that have arisen, showing forebearance, a great desire to do everything possible to eliminate the consequences of the accident as soon as possible. On the most positive side, military pilots, chemical troops and units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine proved themselves. At the same time, it is quite obvious that the party committees had no close connection with the governing bodies involved on site, the party influence on the process of the main work was lost. The scientific, technical and production potential of the republic is not utilized to the full extent.
After the specialists give their opinion on the causes of the accident and the experience of working on eliminating its consequences is summarized, we will have to seriously think about what lessons should be learned from this case, what measures must be taken to ensure safe operation of our nuclear power industry and to improve our readiness to act effectively in the conditions of a special period. Many questions arise here – from medical examination and treatment of sick people to defining the role and place of civil defense in these matters, and the precise coordination of the actions of military and civil services in such cases. The operational group of the Politburo will keep the entire course of the necessary work under constant control and take the necessary measures, in accordance with the real situation, to eliminate the consequences of the accident and report to the Politburo.
SHCHERBINA: We were facing a situation that had not been previously worked out, in connection with the fact that there were no regular measures for such a case. The project itself contains the idea of inadmissibility of such situations. The result is an uncontrolled acceleration of the reactor. Immediately after the accident, there was a lack of readiness to assess the situation on the spot. Civil defense did not warn people. Weddings went on in the city until the evening. It was necessary to quickly put out the fire, reduce the radioactive emissions. 4 thousand tons of cargo was dropped onto the reactor. The surface temperature was brought down from 500 to 200 degrees. What to do at the bottom of the reactor? People went to the pool. Maybe there is an opportunity to release the water.
LIGACHEV: Don’t get carried away.
RYZHKOV: It still needs to be seen. The main thing is to get away from the explosion.
SHCHERBINA: The most difficult thing is decontamination.
GORBACHEV: The main thing is to remove the danger below.
SHCHERBINA: People are working selflessly.
LEGASOV (Academician): The work is organized as follows: comrade Shcherbina is engaged in organizational matters, comrade Meshkov is studying the causes of the accident, I make recommendations to prevent long-range emissions. Groups in Moscow are conducting analysis. Considerations that were expressed in the West for preventing the consequences of an accident should be considered. This is not just guesswork, but the result of research carried out considering the accidents that have taken place at nuclear power plants. We had to make calculations on the spot, because there were no regular measures.
GORBACHEV: Plus, there’s water right under the reactor.
LEGASOV: This was done for cost reasons, so as not to build two buildings. Ministry of Medium Machine Building did not agree with this. If there were 4-5 pipes laid out to a distance there would be no problems. This is a miscalculation of all power engineers.
GORBACHEV: And the caps?
LEGASOV: With the explosion power that took place, caps wouldn’t have saved us.
GORBACHEV: We need to focus on what awaits us.
LEGASOV: After 10 hours, we halted the operation of the reactor. But it continues to emit radioactivity, since isotopes have accumulated in it during the year of operation of the reactor. The power of heat release from such fragments in the first day was 14 megawatts, and today it amounts to 8.5 megawatts, as if 60 tons of coal burned per day. In addition, the graphite is burning. It totals 2.5 thousand tons. 1 ton is burning per hour. This is equivalent to 24 tons of coal per day. Graphite will completely burn out in one third of the year.
The first task is to create a means for filtering the radioactive isotopes. Now they are going into the air 100 times less than they would have been if no measures were taken to airdrop sand and other materials into the reactor. The area located near the reactor has been forfeited, since when the cargo was dropped from a height of 200 meters, dust has risen, increasing the radiation around the station.
Now the molten mass in the reactor is moving downward. It is difficult to control this, since remote devices were not provided that make it possible. This is also my fault. But this is not the case at any nuclear power plant in the world. On the first day after the accident, the temperature of the molten mass was 1100 degrees -it is rising by 135 degrees per day. An experiment was carried out tonight: the molten mass fell into water but the explosion did not take place. However, if the molten mass from the reactor reaches the water, then there will be powerful vaporization. The situation is still alarming. Cooling of the reactor from below is required. It is necessary to drill underground and pump nitrogen through it. For 2-3 days, you need to give air circulation. No sacks were thrown into the reactor yesterday, in order to provide traction. It is a potentially hazardous area. It cannot be more than 250 km. At the same time, the active one is 30-50 km. Our institute has developed the topic “Barrier” related to this problem. So we have accurate calculations.
GORBACHEV: What happens if there is contact with the aquifer?
LEGASOV: Here Velikhov and I did not find a common language. The water from the tank must be siphoned off, not shot, in order to drain it.
GORBACHEV (To Comrade Shcherbina): It is necessary to inform the site so that they do not break through (comrade Shcherbina leaves).
LEGASOV: As for concreting, this is a finishing operation.
GORBACHEV: What is the fate of the other three blocks?
LEGASOV: The first two blocks remained operational. If there is no explosion, then nothing will happen to them. In the third block, in case of an emergency, a fire might occur.
GORBACHEV: Do I need to invite foreigners? It’s not for nothing. But if necessary, then don’t let it bother you.
LEGASOV: They began to acquaint us on this issue with cipher telegrams. Only two moments were unknown to us. These are the French foam and German remote robots. So there is no need to give a general SOS signal, and considerations abroad for their accounting should be sent to the group.
RYZHKOV: If you get an option with pumping water through a pipe, is it possible to put liquid nitrogen through the same pipe?
LEGASOV: Yes. But this does not exclude the undermining.
RYZHKOV: You need to do both.
SHCHERBINA: We have just received a message that the water pumping has started.
ALEXANDROV: Legasov reported everything correctly. Regarding foreign aid: it would be nice to invite doctors who specialize in bone marrow transplants.
ALIYEV: Such a specialist is already working.
LIGACHEV: Is a chain reaction possible?
ALEXANDROV: It is possible. But not an explosion, that is, not an instantaneous process. But abundant vaporization will occur.
SLAVSKY: The ministry is involved in localizing the consequences of the accident. My first deputy is there. One of the reasons for what happened was the zero work of Nuclear Regulatory Authority. What is being done is correct. There are no other suggestions.
BREZHNEV (Minister of Transport Construction): Together with Comrade Shchadov (minister of mining) and Comrade Usanov, on a visit to the site, we studied the issue of drilling to the water. The beginning of pumping eases the situation. After pumping out the water, you need to start pumping the clay-cement slurry. Drilling is complicated by the fact that you cannot approach the reactor closer than 250 meters. We agreed with the military to carry out decontamination in order to get closer to the reactor by 50 meters.
GORBACHEV: We need to accelerate the pace, to act not only as in a military, but as in a nuclear situation, around the clock.
RYZHKOV: Comrade Brezhnev must return to his place in order to organize this work.
GORBACHEV: Yes.
GROMYKO: What percentage of emissions goes to the atmosphere?
LEGASOV: Excess in CO is 22 times. Zirconium will appear. First came Iodine, and now rare earth elements. Dangerous zone is within a radius of 30 kilometers. The most dangerous is the Uranium fission products. Iodine decays to half in 8 days, and after 80 days there will be nothing left.
SEDUNOV (Deputy Head of the State Committee for Hydromet): We monitor the radiation situation from aircraft and ground stations. The spread of radioactivity depends on the wind direction. First the cloud went north, then west and south. There was an increase of radioactive air to Poland, Scandinavia, then to Romania and Bulgaria, yesterday to Turkey. In Kiev, its level increased to 80x background, this morning it is 45x background. The norm for the population is 10x background per year. There is 3x background in Minsk and Lithuania. There is 2x background in the North Caucasus. We believe there will be a decline in Kiev. When the wind turns, the cloud may head to Moscow.
SHCHERBITSKY: Tangled up in roentgens and milliroentgens.
SEDUNOV: It is important to monitor the isotopic composition of precipitation. Iodine goes into milk. This is the most dangerous thing today.
GORBACHEV: What to do with the livestock?
SEDUNOV: There is no need to destroy. Perhaps the contaminated Kiev reservoir.
LYASHKO: Water samples are taken every hour. Radioactivity was detected only in the upper reaches of the Pripyat. We forbade drinking from open reservoirs there.
SEDUNOV: Everything is still normal in Moscow.
SHCHADOV (Minister of the Coal Industry): Breaking through the wall is dangerous. It is necessary to pump out the water, and then pump the mixture. If necessary, we will go through the mining work under the building.
AKHROMEEV (Deputy Defense Minister): The first task is to control the radiation situation. We began decontamination of the roads and other places. Three thousand people are working on it. Today we will complete the preparation of the decontamination plan and report to the Operations Group.
SOLOMENTSEV: What is the cleaning efficiency?
AKHROMEEV: Radioactivity has been reduced by 3-4 times. We’ll have to make burial grounds for soil and water. We have deployed medical checkpoints for Seven thousand people.
LIGACHEV: Akhromeev, what doe you think about penetrating the water under the reactor?
AKHROMEEV: My opinion: to pierce the wall with a cumulative projectile.
RYZHKOV: There are enough people.
AKHROMEEV: If necessary, we will bring in more.
LYASHKO: Water from the Dnieper basin provides for 32 million people. Water samples will be taken within an hour. There was no alarm until yesterday evening. And today thre already is. On small rivers, the radioactivity has increased and is 10 minus the fourth degree (at a rate of 10 minus the eighth degree). An order was given to these areas to switch to the use of water from sealed sources. Fortunately there are artesian wells here. If necessary, we will deliver water by cisterns. It will be more difficult if we have to discharge water from the Kiev reservoir. There is already a lack of water in the south. We need recommendations from the State Committee for Hydromet on how much water to keep in the reservoir.
GORBACHEV: What about the evacuated population?
LYASHKO: The evacuation was carried out in 3 hours instead of the planned 6. The bad thing is that there were no established standard measures for such a case, no exercises had been conducted. Meals are being provided for the evacuees. There was a lack of coordination between the services of the 3rd Department of the Ministry of Health and the regional medical services. They have classified too much. I spoke about this with Comrade Burenkov. Now the situation is getting better. The registration of the evacuees was complicated by the fact that on the eve of the holiday many people went to other cities to visit their relatives by car.
The builders were sent to work at other stations. Three and a half thousand people were assigned to the filial branch of the Mayak plant. Many went to agriculture. We will pay them average wages. Since people have lost their property, they need to be compensated through the State Insurance. The rural population must be given a lump sum of 100 rubles per chapter and 50 rubles for family members. The population urgently asks for more information, recommendations: what to do in the current situation.
SHCHERBITSKY: This is very important now.
GORBACHEV: We agreed to provide such information on site.
LYASHKO: It is necessary for the Minister of Health and the scientists to speak, broadcast to the region and the districts. Water from under the reactor cannot be discharged even into the heaped earth. We need to make a pool. We will build such a container. We also need containers for soil decontamination. But in such places you need to put a perimeter.
VLASOV: We will do it.
LYASHKO: The academic year continues. For elementary grades, it must be completed within a week, and tenth graders must be graduated as usual. All children; the evacuees must be taken to the campgrounds. Request for space to be provided for them. The milk is under double control. If contamination is detected, it is sent to be processed into butter and cheese
GORBACHEV: We have a draft resolution. How to supplement it? We must proceed from the fact that the situation is very difficult in all respects: the radiation, huge territory. Scientists have no unequivocal answers for the future. Therefore, work must be carried out with an orientation towards the worst case. To put the reactor issue in the foreground, taking all the options into account . The task force will pull up all the necessary resources and mechanisms for this. At the same time, emphasize work with the population: everyday life, employment, medicine, etc. Especially the water issue. How to proceed. Everything needs to be calculated, predicted. Particular plan of everything that needs to be done in the danger zone. Separately decide how to deal with the outside world. Give information calmly and carefully, without overconfidence, but rather firmly. Panic is a luxury for subordinates, not for the Politburo and the Government.
More extensive information should be provided in Ukraine through local channels. Provide factual information through the Union channels. Maybe expand the scope of information to the outside world. The enemy asks us questions that would make it possible to evaluate us as a whole, and at the same time to throw mud at us. If we add information, then it will be natural, because time passes, we have more facts. But don’t create a picture of arrogance. We stand in order to make a signal of this fact to everyone, to turn public opinion towards our steps towards disarmament. This incident at a peaceful site speaks of the inadmissibility of nuclear war. Talk about it at the press conference. So the information needs to be added, but responsibly. To bring in foreign specialists? I understood that according to Legasov there is no need for that. Shall the need arise, we will decide.
DOLGIKH: This is written in the penultimate paragraph.
GROMYKO: I agree with what Mikhail Sergeevich said. It is true that the situation remains serious. The second paragraph of the draft says: take note.
GORBACHEV: It must be said: approve the measures taken and step up the work.
GROMYKO: Point ten. We raised this issue with the UN. Need to use what we said earlier.
SHCHERBITSKY: The ninth paragraph can be expanded to tell about the population being informed about the situation.
GORBACHEV: Add it.
MEDVEDEV: Maybe, tell about periodically informing friends.
GORBACHEV: This is in the plan. There is a proposal to introduce these elaborations and to adopt the project.
MEMBERS OF THE POLITBURO: Agreed.
GORBACHEV: Boris Evdokimovich, you said that the analysis of the causes of the accident is over.
SHCHERBINA: Yes. On April 25, an experiment began at the station to check the reliability of work, approved by the chief engineer. It was a gross mistake to make such a check without taking the operation of the reactor into account.
GORBACHEV: What kind of experiments are these? After all, this is a nuclear power plant.
SHCHERBINA: Such experiments are being carried out at power plants. But atomic authority should be aware of this. There was no chief deputy for science.
GORBACHEV: And the hydrogen version?
SHCHERBINA: No, there were two explosions in the reactor.
GORBACHEV: And the automation?
SHCHERBINA: None of the three systems worked.
GORBACHEV: After all, decisions were made on violations of the operating mode at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
SHCHERBINA: Staffing was not provided.
CHEBRIKOV (Chief of KGB): We have two reactor systems – dual-loop (more reliable) and single-loop. This reactor is single-loop. It does not tolerate fluctuations in the operating mode. Non-design things lead to adverse consequences. There are three systems for cooling the reactor everywhere, but only two here. Additional heat removal is what the experiment was for. Its program was formulated without the participation of the designers.
SHCHERBINA: We immediately eliminated the question of hydrogen. The point is the vibration and acceleration of the reactor.
DOGIKH: We must wait for the final conclusions.
GROMYKO: We need to conduct a discussion on the state plan. Misfortune befell us. Someone made an oversight, committed a crime and must be punished. How the experiment was conceived. The solution must be such that generations do not forget this fact.
GORBACHEV: It is proposed to adopt a resolution on liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident and the invitation of H. Blix to the USSR.
MEMBERS OF THE POLITBURO: Agreed.
Resolutions are adopted.

For the purposes of this Arrangement, "non-hazardous waste and scrap" means any waste and scrap not covered by the Article 11 Agreement or Appendix 4 of the Decision of the OECD Council on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Wastes Destined for Recovery Operations (OECD/LEGAL/0266). CHAPTER 6NONHAZARDOUS WASTE All waste materials not specifically deemed hazardous under federal law are considered nonhazardous wastes. The vast majority of waste produced in the United States is not inherently hazardous. It includes paper, wood, plastics, glass, metals, and chemicals, as well as other materials generated by industrial, commercial, agricultural, and residential sources. Source for information on Nonhazardous Waste: The Environment: A Revolution in Attitudes dictionary. Non-Hazardous Waste Treatment. Collection and recovery of non-hazardous waste: Understanding the need and importance of recycling, Green Environment also gets involved in non-hazardous waste collection and recycling, such as packaging or recyclable ferrous and nonferrous scrap. After selective collection they are transported by specialized means to the site where a rigorous sorting and then a manual or mechanical processing occurs (packing, baling and shredding). Non-hazardous waste includes any rubbish or recycling that causes no harm to human or environmental health. This can be from business or household producers.
